You can stop your fear mongering. Fact remains it is still the most secure form of messaging, even the Mounties couldn't decode the messages. They had to ask BlackBerry to do it for them. It's unlikely BlackBerry would fork over messages to anyone on anyone. I do think they should need a warrant to get the information though.

On the flip side, emails and texts are nowhere near as secure as BBM.

Experts canvassed by The Globe say that the Mounties could not have directly cracked the codes belonging to BlackBerry, a company that is often still touted as the maker of the world’s most secure commercial smartphones.

Instead, it’s likely that authorities got a judicial order compelling the Waterloo, Ont., company to help decode communications.
As long as they follow proper procedures and get judicial orders, does anyone have a problem with the Mounties busting organized crime rings?

The RCMP-led investigation resulted in the arrest of 33 suspects on drug-trafficking, assault, extortion, kidnapping and arson charges.
Maybe the headline should read: If you want great security, stick to fact-to-face meetings!

Translation: Shit! I can't spin this. Time for ad hominem attacks!
Actually you don't know what you are talking about, probably because you've never used BES. you can create your own keys for mail and pin to pin communication or us S/Mime.

That's presumptuous of you. Do you not realize security is a myth?

The best we can do is obfuscate something so much that its not worth the time trying to crack it. Blackberry has done a fantastic job at that. This is undisputable, however security isn't only encryption. For example if you leave your nice Lexus unlocked, a thief can easily figure out where you live, and when you are home or not and plot a robbery, of which the thief may not be interested in anything in your house, however they install a key logger and funnel your passwords for internet banking to some other place. Security is a chain, as strong as the weakest link.

Researchers at Berkeley are even finding out how to read or image what the human mind is thinking about.

But lets be real, you only posted this to try to kick Blackberry - way to go chump - at least they don't suck up your data plan and cost your pocket book as much as some others, as well as providing the best commercially available secure device off the shelf, and you can get much more granular and secure if you want to with a Blackberry.
