Testing or knowing who is a carrier and who isn't won't stop disease, only intelligence will prevent disease from spreading (I assume we're talking STDs here?).

Everyone knows teenage girls can get pregnant by having unprotected sex yet teen pregnancy is on the rise.......

I just assume each of my partners is infected with something and take precautions until I'm in a monogamous relationship with them and each of us has been tested.

and if those stats are correct, and we've dropped by 10% since 1992, why the hell do high schools have packed daycares in them now?

Two summers ago when I worked in the 'shwa one of my worker's 15 yr old daughter came to the site a few times a week. In one of the talks we had she informed me that she knew TWELVE girls in her class that had kids....TWELVE. When I was in school we didn't have ONE.

Just goes to show you the stats are as accurate as throwing a wet towel on a pissed off moose:

Here's another that shows different numbers for the same year:

http://www.toronto.ca/health/hsi/hsi_issue2-1.htm

(though both show a decline...go figure?)

I think you can thank AIDs for the decline in teen pregnancies. More condom use and a hell of a lot more oral.

I was also thinking of the stats, it could be that overall, nationwide, teen pregnancies are down, but is very area dependant. So in Oshawa, you'd get a higher proportion of pregnancies yet in upper and middle class neighbourhoods you could get less which affects the stats.

Actually, it has been done. Cuba did it and it and dramatically reduced HIV rates by quarantining infectees. I am not sure if this is still Cuban policy, but it made headlines a number of years ago(and it was featured on a 60 minutes episode). A number of American doctors and epidomoligists argued that it was the right way to approach the problem.

I agree but then you're offending the "rights" of the infected......
