If elected with a majority would Harper further criminalize the sex trade?

My guess is yes.

The social conservative base has been kept on a leash with the understanding that the leash is necessary to get elected. I guess once elected the leash comes off.

I don't think the P.M. really wants to "tinker" with the current balance.

They have better things to do. Lot's of crap to clean up and do other than tinker with the sex trade.

This would be term 2 of a majority, no worries yet.

Any nasty social policy stuff they want to pull they will pull early in their term if they get a majority. The hard right base will remember them for it in the next election; and everyone else will have forgotten about it after 3-4 years.

that they would further criminalize the sex trade in a second term of majority or that I'll become a seperatist?

Are you a true tory/reformist? Alberta will separate before Quebec because they can afford to.

No politician will fuck with the sex trade - Too many skeletons in all of the closets.

I'm in Ontario though.

I just feel that if Harper gets his spending restrictions made law that the next logical step is admitting the whole federal level of government has been made useless and should be scrapped.

And since when has skeletons in the closet stopped a politician from anything?

Ahh... so many here have short memories....

Remember all the fearful posts back before Harper became PM? How the CPC would change the adult industry for the worse?

Well now that Harper's been kicking around for a few years I can say from my point of view not much has changed in regards to this hobby...

You are in Ontario? Where the hell are you going to separate to?

Why would Harper press for a majority then fight to fire himself?

Election Prediction Time:

* The liberals win one seat (Calgary). Harper allows Dion to sit in the house of commons but it must be in a dog-house. Dion will be referred to as "Kyoto"
* The Green party's campaign is ended when a tree falls on to the Via rail train tracks derailing the train and their campaign.
* Layton's affair with a shemale escort becomes headline news and the NDP go into damage control by promoting a "family values" campaign theme with lot's of pics of Jack and Olivia. Unfortunately it is revealed that Olivia is in fact a lady-boy herself (himself?).

My hard prediction is that any nasty social policy is going to come out in the first year of a C majority, probably after six months but before 18. What form it will take is the question.

They've promised not to re-open abortion. I am sure they will cook up something to keep the Reform base happy.

Not much has changed Don? Oh but they have tried:

I will point out that the Tories TWICE introduced their anti-stripper legislation, first as Bill C-57 and then again as Bill C-17 after C-57 died on the order paper. C-17 has again died after only getting to 2nd reading.

I am sure it will be back again, and if the Tories win a majority, it won't be watered down this time either.

So don't say they haven't been on adult entertainment issues, they have... and when they finally get past banning foreign strippers, what's next?

You guys are naive if you think the social conservative agenda won't eventually touch you.

This is the same guy who thinks Russia is going to put missles in Mexico so I wouldn't be hugely concerned.

He's a typical brainwashed liberal who works himeself into a frenzy, foaming at the mouth. Because there are a few religious right wing furballs in rural Alberta he thinks the Conservative will enact legislation for compulsory castration of gays, ban strippers and, heaven forbid pass some better immigration laws. Next thing you know he will predicticting the banning of oral sex :)

The Conservatives are courting Quebec, do you actually think they will ban strippers and sp's if they have a bunch of Quebec mp's ?

Typical fear mongering against anything but their own narrow political beliefs.

If you don't like what a government does it's not the end of the freakin world. Just vote them out the next election. Geez Louise.

The Conservatives may very well change the sex trade laws, depending upon just who form caucus. But it will not be a priority.

Because of the strength of the Green Party, it is thought that the threshold for a majority may have dipped to 35% support for the Conservatives.

Where did I EVER say that?

You might want to review my posting history before you make any more stuff up. Your penchant for making things up makes you look like a complete idiot.

The social conservatives aren't "the base". Those yahoos all backed Stockwell Day for the alliance leadership and were marginalized when Steven Harper defeated Day. They were further marginalized when Harper pushed through the Alliance-PC merger and then pushed for a breakthrough in Quebec. Harper keeps one or two of those neanderthals around just to keep up appearances, but don't expect to see any of them anywhere near the vortex of power.

In a very dark place
Fuji, you love broad generalizations.

I'm an ultra ultra right Conservative but very much a libertarian on social issues. If anything my influence within is to lighten up on the sex laws and come down harder on the physical crimes. Not all Conservatives are Bible thumpers.
