I don't think the P.M. really wants to "tinker" with the current balance.fuji said:My guess is yes.
The social conservative base has been kept on a leash with the understanding that the leash is necessary to get elected. I guess once elected the leash comes off.

by that point I will be a seperatist anyway and won't really care.pblues said:That has a nice ring to it! Go Tories!
that they would further criminalize the sex trade in a second term of majority or that I'll become a seperatist?Sheik said:I'll hold both you and gramage to your predictions....
Are you a true tory/reformist? Alberta will separate before Quebec because they can afford to.gramage said:by that point I will be a seperatist anyway and won't really care.

I'm in Ontario though.
I just feel that if Harper gets his spending restrictions made law that the next logical step is admitting the whole federal level of government has been made useless and should be scrapped.
And since when has skeletons in the closet stopped a politician from anything?

Why would Harper press for a majority then fight to fire himself?
Election Prediction Time:
* The liberals win one seat (Calgary). Harper allows Dion to sit in the house of commons but it must be in a dog-house. Dion will be referred to as "Kyoto"
* The Green party's campaign is ended when a tree falls on to the Via rail train tracks derailing the train and their campaign.
* Layton's affair with a shemale escort becomes headline news and the NDP go into damage control by promoting a "family values" campaign theme with lot's of pics of Jack and Olivia. Unfortunately it is revealed that Olivia is in fact a lady-boy herself (himself?).
My hard prediction is that any nasty social policy is going to come out in the first year of a C majority, probably after six months but before 18. What form it will take is the question.Sheik said:I'll hold both you and gramage to your predictions....

Where did I EVER say that?train said:This is the same guy who thinks Russia is going to put missles in Mexico so I wouldn't be hugely concerned.
You might want to review my posting history before you make any more stuff up. Your penchant for making things up makes you look like a complete idiot. He's a typical brainwashed liberal who works himeself into a frenzy, foaming at the mouth.
The social conservatives aren't "the base". Those yahoos all backed Stockwell Day for the alliance leadership and were marginalized when Steven Harper defeated Day. They were further marginalized when Harper pushed through the Alliance-PC merger and then pushed for a breakthrough in Quebec. Harper keeps one or two of those neanderthals around just to keep up appearances, but don't expect to see any of them anywhere near the vortex of power.fuji said:My guess is yes.
