I've finally decided that I cannot sit here and cry no longer. Katrina has hit me very close to home and I feel I must do my part to help others retrieve their lives back.
I've cried, I've yelled, I've reasoned but I have not done a single thing to help. As some of you know, I have not worked full-time in my field for over a year, by choice. I have spent most of this year relaxing and reflecting between contracts, escorting, and bartending.
I feel as though it is now time to begin doing for others. My day to day life will not miss a month or two at this moment. I am the perfect person to volunteer my time, since I have not enough money.
I've contacted Red Cross and another volunteer agency and will find out later this week what my chances of working with them are. If that does not pan out, I have also contacted some of my family in Houston who will feed and board me for as long as I choose to stay and volunteer. Once there, I would report everyday with my laptop, to the make shift refugee camps where they need aid with database entry and other tasks.
When I am volunteering for the month, I will not generate any income, which I will be fine without. However, I must still pay my rent while I am gone which is only a fraction of my bills. But the rest can wait as long as I have a home to come back to.
So here is where I would need your help. My rent for the month is $650. That is all I am looking to raise, everything else I will take of.
Please note, I will not accept any donations until all my other plans are final, and will present them to whomever donates. At this moment I am trying to estimate how close I am to my goal so I can eventually leave to volunteer.
