OMG ! It seems all the program shortcuts, including system tools, accessories etc have vanished on me. In other words 'all programs' is now empty.

Is there anyway I can restore them to the start menu ? I was thinking I could retrieve [or expand] them from 'cabs' somehow ( not that I know what that is exactly ) I can probably live without them, but would rather have them back as Windows was only recently reloaded.

I'm not sure if it's related or caused by the same error, but some of the icons on my desktop, my comp etc are now opaque ( faded/ transparent) This all seemed to transpire after I was screwing with 'show hidden files'. I tried using system restore to no avail. OS = XP home

OMG, please help

pool (in distress)

PS I'm wearing a red see through neglige.

PSS No, I do not want to switch to a mac [yet] or install Linux.

At the range!!!
Go to help and support , then restore.

Restore back to a day before the problem happened.

If that doesn't work, boot into safe mode 'F8' then choose 'load last known good configuration'. If you are not sure how to do this pm me.

Hope this helps

You may be buggered...

If you recently "reloaded" Windows (as you mentioned) then you could, potentially have overwritten all of your installed applications.

You may need to re-install each program again o get it to work.

It's goo to see you have your priorities straight...getting your TERB access back before anything else.

Easy for you to say...

An even faster way is not to lose everything in your "all programs" folder but, since this happened (read the original post), the above advice seems a little silly.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Unfortunately 'system restore' won't restore it to any point prior to this odd occurrence. It just says system restore failed or something to that effect. It does work with restore points after that.

I did find this site that seems to address part of my problem to a 'T', but the exe files I downloaded didn't work.

Any ideas as to why some of my desktop and other folder icons are faded/transparent ( opaque) ?

Happy, I always get the impression you just skim over posts really quickly before you have to rush back to one of the B spa's ... heheh

PS At least luv appreciated my neglege, unlike JW ... GRRR !
