Never knew that my VISA got points.
Never thought about it. Never considered it.
I've had the VISA for about 8 years.
I told a neighbour I needed a new lawnmower and he told me how he got some gift cards through his credit card points.
So I checked it out.........and...............I just redeemed my RBC VISA points for $350 in HomeDepot gift cards - hello lawnmower and a few other things we need.

This a public service announcement!

Check and see if you have points you didn't know about.

Just like dumbass me found out today!

I have Shoppers Drugmart, Canadian Tire and Air Miles points that I have not checked for years. You can stretch you points even further if you wait for the lawn mower you want to be on special before you redeem you Home Depot cards.

If only you could earn points for vising SP's.

(And I don't mean paying visa--agencies rip you off on the visa transactions, the points wouldn't be worth it.)

This is better than the crap like RBC points.

Mmm...free food.

BTW, any idea whether Visa paywave credit cards like the ones at RBC work on MasterCard Paypass reader, say at McDonalds or Timmys or Petro Can?

I've been saving mine for about 11 years and in between, I racked up killer points.
I only got ESSO gift cards, not sure if they still offer gas cards anymore, but that shit really saved me a few bucks on gas.

I have airmiles and i'm crazy obsessed. I find it hard to achieve gold status with airmiles, as it's super hard to get 1000 miles in a calender year. Shell is having a bonus event, and even if i redeemed my rbc points to get free gas at esso, i still wouldn't get it cuz i've been filling up at shell for years!

RBC is the shit, but i don't have enough to redeem yet. I just wish I could choose my own airline when booking travel with rbc points.

Airmiles is a rip-off in general, less so say you use your Amex credit card at Costco or something, not the real rip-offs like Metro.

BTW, looking forward to redeeming those airmiles for 2nd generation top of the line iPad FREE soon.

Yeah I have an Amex credit card, it's less of a rip-off. But yeah, 1 lousey mile at Metro or Shell doesn't take you very far. It's the bonus events that I go for.

You go to Shell to fill in the gas???

Sounds like you are pretty turned off to the idea of waiting 30 min or so in line to fill in the gas, 6 pennies cheaper at a selection of Costco Warehouse locations.

WRT bonus events, keep a watchful eye on LCBO and resist the temptation to get the bonus airmiles by spending too much to get yourself drunk/alcoholic. LOL.

I don't buy at the LCBO very often. I don't drink alot either, but I do collect points when my friends arn't an airmiles collector either.

The best thing about RBC points is the travel option. No blackout periods. 35,000 points gets $750 worth of airfare anywhere. For me that was a ticket Toronto - San Fransisco for a week, then to Vegas for a long weekend finally returning to Toronto. All on points I earned on my expense account ...

One of the many reasons I don't have it.
It's the equivalent of Facebook, you give your information away for them to use and sell and in return you get fuck.
(airmiles takes forever to accumulate points to get ANYTHING REASONABLY good)

But unlike the aeroplan, there is no expiry date on airmiles points, at least not yet.

BTW, it seems I could get RIM playbook for free but no thank you. Never a crackberry fanboi.
