I know there was another thread but i'm just stating it here whether anyone reads or not. Im in my early 30s and I recently noticed genital warts and i'm such an idiot i didnt even realize it was an issue until i googled and found out it is caused by hpv.Ive had it probably for 4 years because i had never been with a girl before i started hobbying 4 years ago. I only started hobbying about 4 years ago and unfortunately i have engaged in oral sex and oral to anal sex which dramatically increases your likelihood of getting hpv strands that causes head and neck cancer. Recently the right side of my neck and jaw was a bit swollen and I am worried it may be cancer. I have been to the GP doctor 3 times and they are quite dismissive and have no idea about HPV or how its related to cancer. I'm not sure how long it takes to develop cancer after getting the virus some people say few years some say decades not sure what a few years mean.

I just want to tell people on this eaord to stay away from risky behavior even if you hobby like oral sex and oral to anal. I wish someone had warned me before i started hobbying. Needless to say i will never have any further sexual contact with any women knowing my condition.I regret ever doing it and more so doing the high risk sexual activity.

All I can hope now is that I can afford the cancer treatment and I can come out alive on the other side.

Have you seen a doctor or is this a self diagnosis via the internet. If this is a self diagnosis then go see a doctor only then get back to us.

Hope all turns out well for you.

I debated whether to post that thread or not. Didn't want to sound alarmist but thought it better to get the info out and let the members make an informed and, hopefully, also an intelligent decision about their health.

I am currently going through cancer treatment and the Canadian Cancer Society does a great job of making sure you get the treatment you need.

Luckily I have a fantastic drug plan at work but I don't know how much they pay and how much is covered by the Cancer Society. Definitely talk to your doctor or at least get a referral to an oncologist.

So you around 35 and you think you have a self diagnosed cancer because you started hobbying 4 years ago and did oral and analsex? If this case is true, every gay guy should be dead many years ago. It's ridiculous. 75% of the reproductive canadian population has one or more HPV virus in their system but a few of them get cancer. You worried too much because you read stupid articles. Yes its possible, yes it's happen sometimes but not with everyone. Go to see your doctors and they check your "cancer" immediately. If you worried too much, this hobby is not the best for you.

read stupid articles.
It's more than stupid articles. There's a medical reason why the government wants every boy and girl in grade 7 to get vaccinated (unless it is another government "conspiracy"). Anyway, it is a personal decision to vaccinate or not.

May be true but I admire the op's statement that he won't expose others and thus he should be commended as well as getting himself in to see an MD

The good news: you likely don't have cancer.
The bad news: You're likely a hypochondriac, which in serious cases is extremely harmful to oneself. Let the doctors to their job. If you don't like yours, see another, or get referred to by a specialist. You're sure you have cancer? Funny... because even the best doctors in the world don't diagnose cancer without a biopsy.

Most people have herpes but are asymptomatic. You're one of the unlucky folks that gets genital warts as a symptom of it.

You most likely don't have cancer and if you strike out in the cancer lotto too, it'll likely be decades from now.

See your doctor and then get a second opinion from another doctor. If both say not to worry, don't worry anymore.

Not all of them are stupid but many of them suggest false information. That's why the OP is 100% sure, he will get cancer in the future and already find "cancer" symptoms.

In a place far, far away
We have this thing in Canada, it's relatively new, wait for it - universal health care. Go see a doctor.

There are really two separate issues embedded in your post.

#1 - your genital warts: It's unfortunate you got a strain of HPV that causes warts. I applaud you for deciding to stop seeing SPs, because they're pretty contagious as visible warts. If you get them removed by your doctor, you're still contagious but less so. (Still more contagious than asymptomatic HSV-II though.) Talk to your doctor about what to tell partners.

#2 - oral cancer: You almost certainly don't have it right now. If you've been hobbying a lot, you quite possibly have been orally exposed to one of the strains of HPV that can later cause cancer, but it takes more than a decade to develop typically. This is why your doctors are not concerned. But you might consider getting tested for oral chlamydia or gonorrhea. A typical male urine STI test doesn't detect these.

Sorry about the warts -- but, just to be clear, are you officially diagnosed with HPV and/or diagnosed with high chances of oral cancer by a licensed medical physician? That's pretty critical here.

Nonetheless, this sort of thing reinforces why I decline giving and receiving DATO with anyone. Not foolproof, but cuts down chances compared to doing it.

Also, asking hobbyists here -- how often do you all get tested?

Do the STI Clinic do Oral Sti tests because i'm not sure mine did. If not where do I go to do those tests? They did blood and urine tests and found nothing else

You mean the Hassle Free Clinic? I believe the blood tests at Hassle Free only screen for syphilis and HIV; they rely on the urine tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia. They *may* do an oral swab if you have serious risk factors (you might have to tell them you're giving BBBJs). Hassle Free is kind of limited in a lot of ways by their budget and volume; they never test males for trichomoniasis, for example, even if you outright tell them your partner has it; they just give you a course of Flagyl without even testing you. They never use modern (NAAT-based) blood tests.

Your family doctor can though. If you don't have a family doctor, walk-in clinics can also order the tests. The Planned Parenthood clinic is also an alternative to Hassle Free; their website suggests they do more than HFC, but I've never been there.

I'm in a similar boat to the OP. I'm 33, and about 4 years ago I got the warts after breaking up with a serious girlfriend. I went to an sti clinic, and was told that it is HPV, and that the majority of people who get it are asymptomatic and I was simply unlucky. The warts cleared after a few months and I've never had any since then. I haven't hobbied since I noticed the warts and saw a doctor. I was told by the physician that there is no blood test for HPV. I have also heard there are several strains, and not all cause cancer. I've known two young women who died of cervical cancer in the last 5 years, most likely related to STI's, and the recent publicity about HPV-related cancer does scare me a little.

Most people I know never get tested. No one seems to give a shit anymore, and the majority of the population do not get tested, but still condescendingly say they are "disease-free" on dating sites. Genital herpes is also extremely common, but most people are asymptomatic for that as well but are still passing it around in the bars and to people on tinder and pof.

Most HPV strains don't cause cancer, and even if you did have one that caused cancer, it's not 100% that you'd get it for sure. There's other genetic and environmental factors that play a big part.

This is very true.
