I have a teacher friend who is planning to date a student

He tells me he is really attracted to her and suspects that she may want to date him too if he asked her out because he feels there may be mutual attraction. Of course I told him that he is out of his mind. But he says that at this point they are only facebook friends and are not communicating socially through it (yet), and that there is no policy against being facebook friends with a student. Furthermore, the board's rules is that a teacher cannot date a current student or a former student until 1 year after she has graduated, so he intends to keep in touch with her through facebook and then ask her out 1 year after she's gone. Thus he believes that he cannot get in trouble with his plan. She's 18 and he's 35. What should I do here?

It's a bad idea on his behalf, but she's 18 so it's not illegal. You should keep out of it.

If he waits till she's 1 year out of school (doubtful) and she's of age - who cares.

Little creepy a 35 year old dating an 18 or 19 year old, but hey, maybe I'm just jealous.

But if he dips his wick before she's "legal" so to speak, and "they" find out (and "they" always do), he's fucked and he deserves it.

But he's a good friend and I don't want him to lose his job. It's possible that she may (will) tell her friends afterwards and when the school finds out they may (will) investigate if he had paved the avenue leading to this before she left.

But he's a good friend and I don't want him to lose his job.
Recommend that if he's that interested, he should pursue a job at another school and therefore won't get fired from this job when she's out for 2 months and he's tempted.

He says he intends to keep in touch with her regularly during her first year gone through facebook (not against board rules to do that), and then pop the question. So during that year, she might not be moving on if she is interested in it leading to something.

Career limiting move.

I would tell him its not a bright idea, then stay out of it. A lot changes in the life of an 18 yr old in a year.

Look at it this way - if she's 18 and she was an escort she could be "dating" dozens of us on this board.....

I found out a few years ago about my history teacher married a student that was my age and whom I went to highschool with. She graduated, went to university they met up and bam love!!! Now your friend should wait and by the time she is out of school she might not be his thing any more and well she might be happy playing the field with all of the football team. Now remember gentlemen who are over the age of 35 if you see sps that are that young as well hold your tongue and don't judge. This is a board of support and understanding hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

id follow those board rules wait that year. even though 1 year for a 18-19 year old woman in college is like coming in contact with 100000 dicks.

Everything that should be said has been said. If he breaks the rules he is toast, and if it is while she is still a student, criminal as well. Even if in four or five years they end up being passionately in love they are still going to have to deal with people looking cross-eyed at them.

all it really takes is for the student to say something to one of her fellow students/friends.. somehow these things always get back to parents, and even if he is playing by the rules..if even one parent wants to fuck with him by raising a public stink at the Board office with maybe some media along..they will move your buddy on to the Gulag....he might get a great gig teaching a class of special needs students how to wipe their asses and brush their teeth.....for the next 35 years

I told him something like this. Even if he follows the rules, her parents will NOT like the idea of a former teacher dating their daughter, and who knows what they are capable of when they complain to the board.

Gentlemen over the age of 35 see young SPs only to fulfill a
fantasy. A 35 year old teacher drooling on his high school teen student
would show better judgment if he looks to the escort business instead
for a teen to cater to his fancy for underage chicks.

Okay I'm not 100% of the rules and regs but (seeing as none of my friends are looking to fuck their careers)
1) I think it's 18 months and not 12
2) The ontario college of teachers and the teacher's union are pretty clear that you should not have kids as frineds on facebook. It's not so much you caan get fired for it but it is a recommendation to keep teachers out of trouble.
3) If it can be proven that he has already started the relationship how long he waits is a moot point as this is considered "grooming" i.e. lay the groundwork for a relationship
4) switching schoools won't help his case

He is playing with fire..... is a stable job that pays shy of 100K plus a 60K pension and the ability to retire in your 50s worth throwing away.

Who invited who for the friend request. If he did it that alone could be the "grooming" that investigators will use to hang him

Plus isn't it a little weird to put so much stock into a "relationship" when he has no idea if she is interested?

35 and 18 is too big of a gap but that's just my opinion. I mean she has no concept of being in an adult relationship, the responsibilities of adult life, no understanding of the phases your friend has gone through (university, living away from home, holding a full time job, having a career). What kind of conversation can she have with his friends..... you're sitting around the dinner table and she's regaling everyone with tales of high school cause that's all she knows.

Your friend has more issues than just the career suicide. What he can't relate or approach older women? It's normal to plan to wait a year for a girl who has said nothing?

lol you should hear some of the stories about piss, shit and cum being hurled. I dated a girl who worked in an autistic class. she got a facial at work....... I never got to give her a facial

Oh and the story about having a leg broken by a raging autistic kid..... that's a real treat

This is assuming he doesn't get his licence revoked...... meaning by by public schools......maybe a private school will take him...... then again it's not like there isn't thousands graduating from teacher's college each year (sarcasm.......he drops to the bottom of a deep barrel)
