I was thinking how rarely you ever hear about a story like that where nobody opens their trap and they get away with it. (for obvious reasons) However, in this case, hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
You hear it among male friends, colleagues, and such.
The encounters are always remembered fondly, which makes sense given it's a young man's fantasy come true.

I guess the kid’s dad in Laura Caron’s situation figures there is enough in potential Money Damages to make it worth it to potentially damage his relationship with his son, forever. And displacing his grandchild if Laura goes to prison.
It doesn’t make sense to most of us, but money is a huge consideration for a lot of people.
If the U.S. ever legally limited the liability of School Districts, you would see fewer of these cases in the news.
