I foresee a wrongful death lawsuit here!

I do not know who is right and who is wrong in this matter, but my guess is that there will be a wrongful death suit either way.
Young people today are very unpredictable. I witness an incident at a Wendy's Restaurant near a high school a few months ago. A kid was being detained by police and he was giving them lip. There were hoards of young people around and further away in the same parking lot I could see three police cars standing by just in case it got out of hand.
There was also an incident in Quebec in one of the smaller cities where a couple of cops were mobbed and beaten by high school kids because they wanted to arrest a student. These days students are more aggressive than they were 25 years ago.

I too noted this. Perhaps as more details emerge about the incident itself, the case may turn out to be a simpler one than as it first appeared... at least from my from perspective. Sincerely, Jon .
I'm waiting but entirely agree that it leaps out at you, and is not a positive sign for the potential defence.

Campus cops with guns? Enough said right there.
In the U.S. a lot of campus police departments have to conform to the same training requirements as municipal police departments and are armed. But if anything campus police should be trained to a higher standard as to how to attempt to deal with disorderly people without having to resort to deadly force.

I will say that I rather doubt that was the case here.

More to the story:

"In a press conference Monday afternoon, Chief Richard Pruitt of the Alamo Heights Police Department said 23-year-old student Robert Cameron Redus had wrestled Cpl Chris Carter's baton away from him and hit the policeman in the head and arm with it.

Cpl Carter eventually got the baton back and told Redus four times to stop fighting him or he would shoot.

That's when Redus turned around and charged at Carter with his arm raised to strike, and Carter took out his .40-calibur semiautomatic gun and shot six times at Redus, hitting him five times in the chest, neck, eye, arm and thigh.

While the camera on the police cruiser was out, audio was still working which captured Carter warning Redus 56 times to stop resisting arrest, 14 times to place his hands behind his back and three times that he was under arrest. The incident is still under investigation."
