i agree with captain kirk (i wonder if he has an alteirior motive for loving the space program, lol)
but whenever i drive downtown, i see these people also, and think to my self, there is no need for them to be here.
for one, they complain they can't get jobs, well its tough for everyone, but if one needs to get a job to take care of them selves or there family, they should do it. there are many jobs available. especially jobs that don't need any skills. off the top of my head, the construction industry is begging for people, most young people stay away from it, but its a needed trade, and there is always the military, they give you a place to stay, food, training, education, all for free. i know i may sound like a moron for saying this, but im just being blunt. sitting there asking people for money, is just not right, theres a world of jobs out there, that can help people out, and get started. i know its hard, and harder for others, i thank god that my parents let me stay here, at 23, while i work, and go to school, which i pay for everything out of my own pocket.
i fully agree with the space program, even with the cost, because its probably the one thing, that can get the world together, and be as one with the co-operation between nations.

well, i support space exploration - i think that every society, and every generaltion, has the responsibility to do things that contribute to the long term progress of humanity...

the egyptians built the pyramids, and since then humanity has enbarked on other projects that have created the world as we know it today... be it building this country, be it scientific projects, or be it fighting for civil rights, or fighting wars to preserve democracy...

however, i look at bush's ridiculous economic program - his solution to everything is another tax cut - at a time when he is asking people to gop to war against iraq, he has reneged on promises to pay the military a licving wage, or to pay more for police and firefighters... what sacrifice is he asking of the wealthy while he asks other to die for the US? why are we so eager to follow the uS example?

as for the beggars and homeless that kirk complained about, i don't like to have people begging from me either - but my problem is that too many people want to use just "the stick" and not "the carrot" to deal with these problems...

miker harris cut back on welfare, hasn't raised the minimum wage, and has done nothing to help those who want to get off the street to get off the street. not everyone there is lazy - many are stuck because they have mental health problems, criminal records or are otherwise unable to move up in society.

we didn't have these types of problems 20 or 30 years ago, and if you go to japan or the northern european countires, you won't find the same types of poverty we now have in the uS and Canada....

lets have some constructive solutions here!
