Ill be staying there in the near future. Any one have any comments on the place? Do they put the priceline/hotwire customers in smaller rooms or anything like that? It looks like they don't have a pool, sigh. I bid via priceline and got a room for $78.

I stayed there for 3 nights, wasn't bad--pretty nice. Hope the elevators work better now. Room I got of hotwire wasn't small. You should be happy with it. Is a ways from the subway station and streetcars are slower. The location could be better, the hotel I thought was just fine.

Then again there is lots of nightclubs around. Wasn't $78 for NYE, lol, that was the place to be for many people. I think it was a $300+ room. The staff was great I thought, was there ready to help but minded its own business.

Very interesting and pleasant decor. Some of the styling looks like it's intended to conceal soundproofing or function as soundproofing, and seems like it works; I never heard anything through the walls from the rooms next door, only ever heard any noises through the door (certainly the place was busy enough that that wasn't the reason I didn't hear other guests). Also a huge TV and a wonderful array of electronic inputs and outputs on the desk if you wanted to plug your laptop into the TV or whatever.

Also had problems with the elevators when I stayed there, but that would be my only complaint about the place. Got my room through priceline too.

It's a bit of a hike from SP central, but much greater variety of restaurants and entertainment nearby than there are near the Delta Chelsea or Courtyard by Marriot on Yonge, which are probably the most conveniently located for hobbying.

Thanksfor the reply. Doc what is considered SP central?

SC Joe how do Street cars work? Can you pay in cash or do you need to get a fare card?

Any favorite sports bars or restaurants around the Hyatt you work recommend? How safe is it to walk around at night over there.

I usually like to hang out around Eaton center when I stay at the Sheraton but this place is a bit far to walk.

Thanks.

Hyatt Regency used to be the Holiday Inn. I believe all their rooms have not been converted, so should be decent. Elevators are a challenge.

You are right in the heart of the entertainment district, so no shortage of things to do, places to eat, drink, etc. A few highlights;

* The Bell Lightbox - next door. Classic films, art films, foreign films in a beautiful atmosphere. It's the permanent part of the Toronto Film Festival.
* The King Street "strip" of restaurants. Across the street. They run from lovely to terrible, but there are some gems like the Kit Kat.
* Sports Bars -- Gretzky's is just down Blue Jays Way, and they show virtually every game. There's a Fionn MacCools near Front & Bluejays.
* Second City Comedy Club - if your room faces South you can see it out your window. Always a fun time.
* Other places a short walk away - Le Select Bistro, The Bier Markt (King St. location), Smokeless Joe's (beer bar).

And finally, for pure eye candy, it's hard to beat the parade of 19-year-old girls in short skirts on Richmond Street every Friday and Saturday night - even in winter. The club traffic in that neighbourhood is crazy - but I would avoid it after midnight.

Have fun!

TORBOUND, welcome to Toronto. I've stayed at that hotel before it was the Hyatt. It was a Holiday Inn, then had fairly extensive renovations and was sold. For your questions on street cars, you can pay cash, and you can get more information here: http://www3.ttc.ca/. There's a good pub just around the corner (Fox & Fiddle?). Lots of restaurants right across the street, but I haven't tried any of them so I can't comment. There is a pool at the hotel, by the way, but it's outdoors so it won't do you too much good. Also, it's pretty safe on the streets there. It seems that the time bad things happen is at 2 AM when the clubs let out and hundreds of people who have been drinking are let out on the streets at once. In any case, have fun.

I get a daily TTC pass for $10. Lets me ride all the buses, subways and streetcars in the TTC area all day as much as I want. Comes in very handy for tourist who might get off at the wrong stop or better yet take the subway train in the wrong direction...I did that once last week I could not believe it but it was NYE weekend, ha ha.

Trip Advisor is good for non sp hobby info. I'm Stillsmoking on there. Its a family friendly site so skip the Incall questions, ha ha.
