Another weekend in Toronto means another few days of concerts, markets, art exhibitions and other events — along with a multi-station TTC closure to complicate them all.

Following a long line of frustrating full weekend closures across various parts of the city's subway network over the last while comes yet another taking place over May 24—25.

For the duration of both days, riders will be unable to access Line 1 Yonge-University from Sheppard-Yonge all the way down to College Station, a closure spanning 11 stops and more than 11 km.

The reason, as in past cases, is cited vaguely as ongoing "track work." These maintenance projects will necessitate an inconvenient 38 weekend closures total this year alone.

As crews work at track level, shuttle buses will run along the north-south line in lieu of subway cars, though customers should note that Lawrence and Summerhill stations will be fully shuttered.

All others along the stretch will be open for purchasing fares and connecting to streetcars and buses.

This hiccup, which is larger in scope than in recent weekends, notably impacts the city's busiest station, Bloor-Yonge, and also takes place during Doors Open Toronto, an annual event for which people criss-cross around the city to see the insides of hundreds of buildings usually off limits to the public.

This round of work will wrap up in time for normal subway service to start at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 26.

It's almost like, if you take public transit, you are at the mercy of the public transit provider.

I didn't see that coming. Maybe I should reconsider my move to a commune.
