HPV vaccinations good or bad???

Jade4u

It's been good to know ya
So, I am sitting in the dentists office today and pick up a magazine and start reading it and came across an article about hpv vaccinations in which even one doctor said he refuses even to vaccinate his own daughter because there is just too many unknowns and said his daughter is not a guinea pig etc... I also read that there has been cases of blood clotting and possibly even deaths from this vaccination and still risks of developing other cancers from this vaccine.

So now I did a search on the internet about side effects to let you read some things on it too.

All medications have some side effects. The issue that should be considered is that are the benifits greater than the side effects.

I read there was a huge lobby effort to get this vaccine funded by government. British Columbia did not agree to the funding as yet since the cost benefit did not work out in favour.

My personal feeling is that I would not allow my daughter to receive the shot.

The long term effects have not been properly studied and the test studies didn't include a large amount of 9 year olds.

A recent Mcleans article on this topic pointed out the benefits and possible detriments. The main issue is that this is NOT an epidemic. It's something that needs to be addressed but there are easy alternatives to mass inoculation.

I thought the most telling statement was from a doctor who said; "It's easier for some parents to have their daughter get a shot than to educate them regarding HPV and give them condoms for protection"

When I was in school there were a lot of Thalidomide children around. That was a prime example of a rush to treat without long term studies.

This is a Scam by Merck .. The same company that lied about Vioxx ..

Apparently they have not even done a clinical trial for the target age group, which is 12~18 yrs or something like that ..

Thus the huge lobbying effort on their part .. Unfortunately Ontario Gov swallowed the bait ..

Someone is asleep on their wheels ..

Actually thalidomide is now perfectly safe.....

The problem with thalidomide was that the original manufacturing process made a mixture of stereoisomers (configurations), and they found out that the body reacts differently to different stereoisomers. It was a very unfortunate lesson to learn for medical research, but learning it early on has probably saved a lot more lives. Doesn't give much condolence to people afflicted by it, but it does send a message that maximum research should be done before application. The tests for drug companies to get a product to market are numerous.
Hopefully the HPV vaccine has undergone all required testing. Long term effects will be hard to fully gauge though. Hopefully the benefits will outweigh the risks if it does go ahead.

Note: vaccines can have effects, depending how they trigger the immune system, but they would be individual effects not group effects.

...Can anyone cite ONE vaccine that has long term side effects. A vaccine essentially introduces a DEAD virus or virus lookalike into your body which then turns on its natural immunity to that pathogen.....
The cheaper flu vaccines have a mercury compound that is used as a preservative. The more expensive vaccines don't use mercury.

Unfortunately, Ontario uses the cheaper one. There's enough mercury in it to cause allergic reactions in some people. That's why there's a mandatory questionnaire that asks specifically about allergies and also why they make you wait for 10-15 mins after you take the shot. They also question the long term effects of accumulated low level mercury from vaccines in small kids. As you pointed out, the benefit (possible protection from SARS) probably outweighs the risks
