Why does Canadian money weigh less than Amercian, and why do the coins look so much alike? I just noticed the new US dollar coin, it's the same size and color as the Loonie but noticeably heavier. Even the paper money feels heavier, though I certainly haven't put then on a scale.
I wonder if the lighter weight makes the Loonie an easier sell to the public, since the US hasn't been able to sell people on the dollar coin (vending machine companies wish they could, and so do mints because they last a lot longer than paper)
Canadian coins may be more corrosion resistant too, the pennies sure are. Something in my car's floormats (spilled brake fluid?) reduces US pennies to white powder but doesn't do much to the Canadian ones.
