Its kinda kewl, but he is gonna be on a short leash. He wont be the real Howard, but he still should give that show a real boost.

huge announcement. i dont think he will compromise on the real howard, and will be himself. ratings will go through the roof.

Fucking incompetent judges make more than the talent

It is sad that our culture makes Stern so popular

its not sad. he should be more mainstream. he stands for and speaks up on many important issues (gay rights, racial discrimination etc....)

Greg Giraldo

The Howard Stern Show has been going downhill since The Baba Booooey Roast. I haven't paid attention to it in over two years.

Well... let's be honest...

He used to call people "fags" all the time until he started to enjoy greater celebrity status and then he cleaned up his act (at least on that point). So I wouldn't exactly say he speaks up for gay rights. More like it's the politically acceptable/expected thing for a famous person to do so he does it.

When you listen to Howard, don't be fooled. He's a very calculated guy and not the "average schmoe" he likes to make himself out to be.

Actually the show is better than ever. I find he's mellowed out and the show has taken a different tone. He has been doing some incredible interviews this year. Two in particular stand out, Chris Cornell and Chris Martin, two great interviews. He had them both in for over an hour and a half, had them playing covers solo, amazing to listen to.

I used to tire of the "childish" shtick of his, totally different show now. The only reason I have Sirius is Howard.
i agree, different better show. his interviews over the last couple of years have been his best, by far. lady gaga was amazing, interview and in studio performance. and im not a gaga fan.

i agree with your last statement, he is very shrewd, but over the many years listening i have not heard him use the term fag in a derogatory manner, ever.

Then you haven't been listening long because he was using it in the early 2000s for sure. Him and Artie used to use it until Howard finally got "uncomfortable" with it and banned its use. He says he had an epiphany but I don't buy it. You can tell he's a super passive-aggressive guy (e.g., when someone comes on who has lost weight he routinely references how they used to be fat and puts emphasis on the word which, consciously or subconsciously, is his way of making the person feel uncomfortable).

Same thing with pornstars. If you listen to him he clearly thinks they're disgusting, wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, and takes every opportunity to humiliate them but it's all in good fun right? He's just joking around right? Yeah, right. If you believe that then you've drank the HS Kool Aid...

And his latest rant about the Stern Fan Network, I find it highly ironic (and amusing!) that he can dish it out like no other but when people bash him, Oh No!, the sky is falling, pull that website down! Or ever notice how they rarely tell you when they won't be on the air? This is like the only show that doesn't make it easy to find out when there's going to be a new show. You can't tell from the website, they don't tweet, they don't say anything on the show. He just doesn't want to face the wrath of all the people who keep paying 100% of the subscription fee for 80%, then 60%, and now even less than that of a show. The guy takes 10 weeks of vacation on top of working 3 days a week? And yet everyone is still paying the same rate as when he worked 5 days a week all year.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to the show. But all his sycophant fans and crew can't see the forest for the trees. I actually LOL when I hear him ranting about how he doesn't get recognition. Yeah, that's cuz when he goes through life disrespecting and making fun of people, those same people end up not giving him the recognition he so obviously and desperately craves. I actually think it's a pretty sound condemnation of the guy that the only way he can get on network TV is to judge a talent contest...

Howard has not been relevant in years. He got his Sirius payday, but the show is beyond bad. For you guys who think the show is better than ever, more power to you but there are far superior podcasts these days. Sirius is dead as a business, and they are currently giving the service away to hold onto subscribers.

He's a great pick. He's a pro, he's got personality and charisma, and he's comfortable working live in front of an open mic. He doesn't need a script to work from, and he's never at a loss for words.
On the downside, he probably doesn't know a thing about judging showbiz performers.
I don't think he'll need to tone himself down. On the talent show, the stuff he's going to be judging is all family-rated, so there won't be any reason to go over the top.

you know that when you pay for sirius you get more than just the stern channels right ? your paying for the whole service, so saying that you are still paying full price and gettin less for your money is a dumb statement. him getting sfn closed was actually kind of funny to me cuz he is always talking about free speech, yet when he doesn't like what is being said he gets it shut down. the forum i spend most of my time at is growing thanks to him and it's not a censored platform like sfn or this other forum i post on that is a local toronto place. seen growth from him shutting it down which is cool.

he did stop saying fag but he did it because he started having george takei on and he didn't feel right saying that when it was offensive to george. remember a show where a chick who had a kid with down syndrome called in and told him to stop saying retard cuz it was as offensive as fag or the n word, he flat out told her no, told her she was being retarded then hung up. he also took a lot of shit for calling precious fat, which he didn't appologize for as most people would have.

i find it amazing that when sal and richard go on the street and do the comparison thing that howard gets votes for being a worse person than sandusky, O.J, hitler and countless other evil people.

for him to go on agt, i think it will hurt the show since he will spend more time talking about. that is less time for benjy and his new fucking schtick that he has been doing though and maybe robin will drop whatever power trip she thinks she is on, she has gotten way fucking worse in the last few months for cutting him off, inturpting and just being an annoying pig.

If they want good ratings with Howard, they better let him be. They can't have a Howard Stern and don't let him be Howard Stern.

i suppose your correct. frankly i have given up trying to figure who the real howard stern is. i suspect there is a more distinct line of separation between the real man and the showman, than is readily apparent by just listening to the show.

its academic. i still enjoy listening to the show.

he didnt get SFN shut down, granted he was complaining about it but Mutt totally volunteered to take it down. howard did not ask or make him. 70% of my listening of sirius is howard channels, so its not quite valid to perfectly correlate sirius subsrciption rates with the amount of howard on-air hours.

i think your right, im worried that although AGT will get higher ratings it may ironically be a jump the shark situation for the HS show. will be interesting to see how it evolves.

childish. not really. remains one of the most ego-driven narcissistic personalities ive observed (but he knows it).

what drives me crazy is his double standard re money and income. he expects every guest to be open about how much they make and are worth and criticizes them for not saying. yet he will NEVER talk about that when someone puts the question back to him.
