I tried this method and it worked just fine

I used Google Chrome as my browser

searched for a UK area code .... here is one from London: SE1 8SW

then used http://www.daveproxy.co.uk/ and entered www.spotify.com in the enter URL box.

that takes you to Spotify UK where you sign up for Spotify(get spotify)

sign up for a free account. I used location as UK and used the area code, gave my real email addy.

it will then tell you your account has been processed close the page and go here
http://www.spotify.com/us/download/

download the app, sign in and enjoy

works for Windows and Mac

my account is UK based but you can change your location via edit settings if you wish

Why not just use RDIO instead. They are free, you don't need an invite, have an iOS App and they love us Canadian users.
