WE’VE had the Greenwich Meridian Line, the Mason-Dixon Line and the Plimsoll Line.
And this week Britney Spears prompted the creation of another internationally recognised frontier — the BOOBLINE.
Following her wardrobe malfunction — where she was snapped nearly popping out of a very low-cut dress at her 27th birthday bash, below — scientists, undies experts and mathematicians have been trying to figure out where the decency perimeter lies.
And here we can exclusively reveal the formula to work it out.
The equation is O=NP(20C+B)/75.
To figure out the naughtiness rating (O), you times the number of nipples exposed, from zero to two or expressed as fractions of nipple shown (N) with the percentage of exposed frontal surface area (P).
The sum in brackets is 20 multiplied by the cup size (C), where A cup is one, B is two, C is three and D or above is five.
Add that figure to B, the bust measurement in inches. Then divide your answer by 75. Any score higher than 100 is counted as obscene.
Britney’s tight fitting Roberto Cavalli dress showed off around 70 per cent of her breasts, and experts at Wonderbra think she is a 32D. Without any nipple exposure, Britney’s formula works out as 0x70x(20x5+32)/75 = 123.2.
Mathematician William Hartston, who holds an MA in Maths from Cambridge University, reckons this will save a lot of showbiz blushes on the red carpet.
“A girl can use this formula to see whether her outfit is counted as decent,” says William, author of Drunken Goldfish and Other Irrelevant Scientific Research.
In November, sultry chef Nigella Lawson, 48, caused a stir when she over-exposed herself in a red Vivienne Westwood gown.
And telly favourite Cilla Black, 65, also made jaws drop last month when she flashed the flesh at a charity ball.
Sun columnist Lorraine Kelly, 47, showed off her plungeing neckline on her ITV1 morning show this week.
And don’t forget the outrage Holly Willoughby, 27, caused on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice in January when she dared to bare.
Julia Nolan, of Wonderbra, says: “The perfect cleavage is a bust showing a full, round shape and leaving a small gap in between the boobs.
“Remember, less is more so make sure you hold something back by having no more than 20 per cent of each breast exposed.”
