Er..............Kind of pretentious, don't you think?
Reminds me of a guy I heard about that thought he was sophisticated. He took his friends to a very expensive restarant and ordered wine. When the waiter opened the bottle he said the wine had spoiled. Another bottle was brought to the table, he said that was spoiled. They changed wines and then he said that that wine was not spoiled but it was stored improperly. The last straw came when he said that the forth bottle of wine had turned to vinigar. The owner grabbed him and threw him out of the restaurant and then came back to the table and apoligized to his guest and said that the diner was on him, he also sent a bottle of wine to the table.

How sophisticated do you think you will look when:
- You slice off a thumb.

That's why you're supposed to have the cutting edge facing yourself. I believe the video recommends using a blunted sword anyway ... like the decorative type that people seem to have lying about the den. The appeal of this (for me anyway) has less to do with appearing sophisticated and more to do with mastering a new technique.
He's using the spine/back of the sword which basically flat. I've seen it done about 6 times without incident and yes, it is showy but never fails to impress the crowd. No more showy than pouring coffee from over your head into a cup or having anything flambéed at your table side; in my opinion that's more dangerous. Where's my church key? I wonder if it works on a quart of beer. Hmmmmmm.

Champagne should not be opened in such a way that corks fly and foam pours out. It ruins the drink. Open it gently.
Sorry, I got too uptight. What I really wanted to say was - Why make a big show of it and possibly ruin your enjoyment. Keep it simple, that is the way to impress.
