I hooked up my iPad to my laptop and before you know it all the pics in my laptop picture file were on my iPad. I wanted some of the pics deleted my iPad so my SO won't see them but it won't delete! Is this crazy or what? Is this an iPad short coming? Anyone know how to delete pics from your iPad that have imported from my laptop? If this is an oversight? Hard to believe.

for something that's supposed to be so easy to use, it's hard to believe you need to go to support forums simply to delete a photo lol

I see you speak well of your fellow iPad users in need of help....aren't you special!

and to my recollection there is no trash can on an iPad, but I could be wrong seeing as I don't have one

It really is ridiculous how difficult Apple makes it to delete pics....considering how much these iToys cost!.....:D

So you agree the 'stupid hoops' you have to go through to delete these files makes sense???.....

seems to me that it is you that doesn't know what he's talking about. otherwise you would have answered his question and been helpful instead of ignorant.

clearly deleting a picture TAKEN with the iPad is quite simple, but deleting a picture that is transferred from another device requires some hoop jumping and support forums for those not so technically inclined as you

Actually, to delete a photo (not taken with the iPad) you simply select the photo and hit the trash can.... To delete multiple photos you tap edit, select the photos to be deleted and then tap delete...

As you said, you don't know what your talking about.

so that's you official helpful answer to the OP?
the one that Fred answered with links to Apple support and another showing an app that simplifies the process?
are you saying now that Fred who owns an iPad doesn't know what he's talking about? Hmmmmm.... very interesting.

thankful you're being so helpful  glad you know it all lol

Maybe not all, but he does know how to easily delete stuff using the trash basket or delete on the desk top.

Fred simply answered the question differently than I did, no need for me to repeate the information other than to show how ill informed you are.... Not that you don't do a good job of that yourself....

No0t ill informed at all, just being more helpful as Fred was and you were not, preferring to be a smug AppleJack cultist of little help to a befuddled Apple OP....:eyebrows:

Oh really?? can you show me where in Fred's links it shows how do delete photos that were transferred from a pc the way you prescribe...simply dragging to the trashcan
because all the information I see says you must do a sync with itunes to do that. in all your smugness I don't see you make any mention of that.

let me give you a couple of quotes from Apples support forum

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view. Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing.
If they are photos that originally came from your computer then they can't be deleted directly on your iPad - you will need to SYNC (or you could reset the iPad back to factory defaults if that is more viable). Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then with the iPad connected to your computer's iTunes re-select on the Photos tab the photos from your computer that you want to be on the iPad (syncing photos) - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page.
The only way to delete photos on your iPad that were put there during a sync is to do another sync. But this time in itunes uncheck the albums you do not want on your iPad then click Apply.

I suggest you do this but uncheck all photos then tap Apply so that all photos that were transferred from your computer to your iPad are deleted from your iPad. Then delete all other photos on your iPad that might have been obtained from email, web sites or taken with the iPads camera.

After you do this quit the photo app.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the Photos app until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal.

Then reboot your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.

Once your iPad restarts you could add some photos from your computer by syncing. Hopefully the problem will be fixed.
So my smug friend, are you STILL saying to simply drag them to the trashcan? is that your final answer to this question that the OP posed?

because from what I can see you seem to be a little clueless in this regard.

can you show me how your answer is only answered a little different than freds supplying links?

it really does seem to me to be a very tricky problem for the non tech people that usually buy Apple and not at all as simply dropping it in the trash.
show me where i'm wrong....i wish to be enlightened

Well guys the pics are finally deleted, a friend of mine came over and showed me how.

Pics taken with the iPad can simply be deleted by clicking the delete button on the iPad screen. However, pics transferred from another source, ie. my laptop, to the iPad can not be deleted by clicking the delete button, the button doesn't work. I had to delete all my files transferred to the iPad through iTunes, then I transferred only those pics from my laptop to the iPad through iTunes. I find this absolutely stupid, it's called iTunes so I'm expecting music, not pics, it should be called iMedia so it encompasses all media, pics, music and video.

I love the quality of Apple products, second to none, love the look and many of the applications. But this is so friggin' stupid that you have to go through hoops, as Pecker said, just to simply delete a pic, how arrogant of them.

Thanks for all your posts guys.

I'm happy you got your problems solved, and yes Apple make quality products, but their implementations and restrictions are quite often bizarre.

yes, i agree it is weird. but for people who love that syncing thing, it is perfect. the bad part comes when they move their files on their pc and on the next sync, everything gets deleted from their iphone! that'll make ya sweat. some people have made the error of deleting pics and songs on their pc and then losing them permanently. i personally don't like this system. that's why i jailbreak and use my iXXXX like mass storage.
