Was just looking thru the parks and recreation brochur and once again I get the idea to get into coaching basketball. More interested in younger kids to start off, as its more about fun and games.
I know you can just volunteer within your community, but eventually i'd like to move up to different levels and actually be a certified coach with all the corses, certificates etc all finished. Maybe get a paying job or something like that.

My questions is, where and how do you go about getting your coaching certificate? Anyone here a coach or have taken the necessary courses?

Get some certification (which is a piece of cake to start), get a police check (if you can) and start contacting clubs and/or schools. To become a head coach in a program where you are an outsider is tough unless you have some experience so be prepared to help out for a bit first if you don't know anyone. From what I've heard, a lot of the smaller club programs at the 7-12 year olds are always looking for knowledgeable people to help coach. Same goes for many elementary schools.

Remember though, you're not only convincing people you can coach the game but that you can be trusted with their kids.

most community centers will also run programs.

Humber has a program but not for basketball

York and U of T has recognized B. of Phy Ed programs if you want to invest 4 yrs. I know few who became Gym teachers and coaches. I don't think they've Adult continue programs for part-time study.
