How much is my 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback worth?

Gentlemen and Ladies!
I have a question about my little Honda Civic SI Hatchback...about 242,000 clicks, body quite bad, runs like a dream when she gets a new battery, 1993...in other words, body shit...engine fantastic...any ballpark thought about what I should be thinking of charging for her? I understand that hondas are EXCELLENT little cars, I know it because I bought her new in '93 and she still starts really well, but I've really no idea and would love a ballpark fogure from a guy (or girl) who knows cars.

10 year old car that looks like shit, has that kind of mileage, but runs great? You'd be lucky to get $500 US for something like that. Post an ad in college newspapers and maybe you'll get lucky.

How bad is the body and is it a 5 speed?

No matter how good is the condition of your car, if it has accumulated that much mileage & years of service will not be worth much. I would guess-estimate a maximum of $500.

The above is from experience. I have a '92 Mitsubishi Colt, manual, one-ownered with 500K Km on it, 4 years ago when I tried to trade it in for a new vehicle, the dealer offered me only $100.

I kept the car, still use it for my daily runs (got one speeding ticket too) & patiently waiting for the car to appreciate its value.

It IS a five speed...the body to be honest is pretty bad. Couple of accidents (not my fault, honest), right rear fender and wheel guard is pretty f***ed, door locks are a little tempermental, interior great just needs a vacuum, but I swear to God she runs really really well when she's got a decent battery. REALLY well...honda civics are terrific little cars.

Honda's are great cars, agreed, but not when they are all banged up like that.

I know that Honda's keep their value longer than most cars....but yours is different. Yours lost it's value when the exterior became trashed. I'd say sell of the parts and make more money, then try to sell it as a whole.

You're get more value for your car that way.

Okay, banged up is not bad as long as there is no stuctural damage. The real killer is RUST. Body panels can be easily replaced, rust is terminal.

The selling price depends on how fast you want to sell it.

Keeping plates and insurence on it and in time you should get close to a grand. But mind you that might take alot of time to find the right buyer. Trade it in on a new or late model used car and you could get more then that ON PAPER.

But in any event ask yurself: How Much would I pay for this?

$500 is probably a realizable figure, maybe $800 to $1000 if you trade it in on a new Honda with their model year end sales going now. Some of the dealers have a lot of cars in stock and REALLY want to get rid of their 03s.

You're right dragon, that 100 bucks is what they'd probably get for it for scrap. A lot of times they will give you more based on how much gas is in the tank.

Your best bet Sarah is to wait for one of those "push pull or drag" sales where they will give you $2500.00 not matter what the condition.
