Maybe I will take up a side hobby..

Stopped at a red light waiting to turn out of a plaza, dude was walking around with a coffee cup and I could see a couple 5’s in there and whatnot..

So if he stood there all day with this cup then how much could he possibly get??

Am I missing out on some extra cash here!?

You can become the male version of the notorious "Shaky Lady" pan handler who worked downtown core. Her son would pick her up in a expensive car and drive home to their expensive mansion with big screen tvs and computers.

That guy will tell you, if you give him $5.

It's common practice to "load" your tip jar to encourage punters. It's also better if you can juggle or play a musical instrument and or sing. Try to look presentable without looking prosperous. I could go on.......

or be the sticker dude, like that sticker lady who would walk up to men in the downtown core, put a smiley face sticker on their clothing and tell them "you're so handsome" and expected a tip/handout

I once lived in a condo in downtown ottawa at the corner of Somerset and Bank. There was a regular panhandler who would show up for his shift every day and I used to get a kick out of watching him do his thing. Based on how many handouts he got, and assuming everyone is dropping a loonie (more are less, some are more I assume), I figured he was averaging about $40-50/hr.

I gave a couple bucks to the “shaky lady” but it was more self serving for me. She held a sign that said something like “ $….I will pray for you” I looked at it as 2 dollar investment!

I remember that sticker lady downtown from 30+ years ago! She was Always around the Eaton centre and Yonge street.
I saw her year or so ago on the subway. I was like where do I recognize her from? She still looks the same, not sure if she’s still doing the sticker thing.:)

I remember an old guy who used to strum a guitar with missing strings, not tuned. He wore ragged jeans and a cowboy hat.( Not Mr. Bojangles.) I saw him on the bus after finishing his shift one evening and he was talking to a crony and going on a rant about how one of his associates had a poor work ethic. He was berating the guy for not putting in full effort or something. " At least I get out there every day and give it my all" to paraphrase....

Some memorable pan handlers down town from years ago:

Blind guy with a tin can who would say quickly "Can you spare a nickel, a dime, a quarter or a dollar?"

Mulatto teen who was a ventriloquist.

Homely mentally challenged dude selling pencils.

They surprisingly make a lot of money and treat it as a job. I am referring to the professional ones that have hones, and not the truly homeless street sleepers.

On the highway of life
There used to be a guy a while back who worked the light coming out of the big box stores at Stevenson & 401.
My cousin chatted him up one day and he said he was pulling in $400 almost daily.
