now that he's got a better idea of when he can return (3rd week of november), how many points do you think he can generate this season?

my guess is that he can still hit at least 75 points... many will think this is a bold prediction, but, the leafs have a very thick pool of offensive talent for sundin to work with this year. they are 2nd in goals scored for the entire nhl currently without him. and if 5 leaf players are currently averaging over 1 pt per game, he definitely should be able to do it too. (i hope)

and no, mojo, i'm not trying to jinx him.

well I think sundin should be back in a week or 2 and so I'm projecting him to reach atleast 80-90 points if the wide open hockey remains, put him with Alexander Steen

did anyone hear leafs lunch today with mareck and watters?

i thought it was kinda weird that am640 has been saying that sundin will be back in the lineup by Nov. 8th... shame on them for trying to start a rumour. well i guess we found out watters was the culprit. Sundin said himself he doesn't see him coming back in early november unless recovery goes alot quicker than doctors expect... in fact, the doctors couldn't give sundin a "for-sure" return date yet.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Don't remind me..I have him in the pool! I also have Ryan Smith who's playing injured, and Brett Hull who retired...I'm just about ready to throw in the towel.

might you wanna get into a new pool to hedge your bets?

too bad for sundin. this could've been a real breakout year for him. the leafs are scoring lots and lots of goals. no doubt he'll be a big part of it, but, if he could've only had his typical ironhorse season of seeing 75+ games, he'd probably (IMO) or possibly (for the critics) end the season with 120+ points!

only 10 games... way to early to tell anything, but it looks like he's projected to score no more than 55 points this season.

if Sundin plays all 42 remaining games, he's now on pace to score about 65 points, so i guess he effectively raised his average to about a point per game... lately he's averaged 1.5 points per game, which is about the same average as Jagr, Thornton, Alfredson, and Kovalchuk, etc..

March 2nd and Mats is at 42 pts. but with a well earned gold medal and a few thousand people supporting a movement to send him packin' elsewhere...

after March 7th game against Montreal i don't hear anyone yelling trade him... yet now there is alot of interest in him..

Rangers, Carolina and Vancouver are reportedly interested

hell, even San Jose can make the cap room for him.

March 27th and at 56 points ... he scored 59 points as a rookie and already surpassed his worst pro-season total of 47... evidently, that was his first season as a Leaf.

true..but some reasons..

...I really think the eye injury was a major factor...missing a lot of games right at the start....probably coming back earlier than he should have, and having to catch up game wise when he returned...I don't recall him playing during the lockout...i'd say over the last few games, expect for the Montreal debacle...he's hitting "franchise player" stride. Sundin still has a few good yrs left...and despite what everone seems to say, I think Mats wants to stay in TO...don't know why...If he ever ended up anywhere else, I think you'd really see his talents on display..

i think his stats are somewhat impressive. his ability to get things done is still alot better than what some teams have to offer.

consider:

Nashville's #1 Mike Sillinger... 9 more games than Mats and 1 less point.. -16 to mats' -1... about the same ice time and same PM's per game, shots/game and scoring chances/game... also consider Sillinger should have the edge playing with Sullivan and on the league's #6 team compared to Mats 'not knowing who his wingers are going to be on most nights' and being on the league's 20th best team...

others: LA's Pavel Dimitra, Buf's Chris Drury, Robert Lang, Mike Comrie, Saku Koivu, etc...

all franchise players and yet, Sundin consistently outperforms all of them...

There's no question in Sundin's natural talents. But somebody's going to be the scapegoat when the Leafs fail to make the playoffs. They didn't pay him 6.84 million to be 61st in the league, injuries or not. It's the Vince Carter bug

yeah, but not as bad as Jarome Iginla... he's paid $7million with bonuses and is 66th in points scored...

or we can try and land Khabibulin... he's only paid $6.75 million.

hey Pro....making comparisons between Sillinger and Sundin???...I scoff at the mere suggestion...I know Lang , Koivu and Dimitra have had their time in the limelight..but comparing to Sundin?? , don't think so....that scoring Chris Drury is a grinder who happens to have some hands...but again...not Sundin..Comrie is the ultimate underacheiver...As much as I agree with your opinion of Sundin..the evidence you're using to get there is not compelling...I know some of these guys on your lis are getting big bucks..are they all in the 6 mil range??...if they are, it shows it's not just JFJ that can't judge talent.. I still think Sundin is an elite talent in the NHL....stats don't tell thewhole story in his case. To be able to perform at a fairly high level with this sad sack franchise is a major acheivement on it's own..
