It's been 20 years since any Canadian team won the Cup. The Canadiens won in 1993 during the first few months of Bettman's tenure as commissioner. Nothing since then. The Leafs are still a couple of superstars away from being Cup ready.

They'll win it again at some point, just could take decades for any team's number to come up in a 30 team league, thats just going to be the nature of it, even more so with salary caps in place. Montreal is also a little bit disadvantaged by all the pressure & hysteria in that market and some of other conflicts on the side (language issue when hiring coaches & managers foer example) but those challenges were in place the last couple of times they won.

However as years turn into decades elapsed since the 70's and 80's, the link to the champoionship pedigree, and the experience and know-how for winning specifically in Montreal, becomes harder to pass down.

Even so, at some pont in the century their number is bound to come up.

All of Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal have strong young cores of 25 and under. I could see one of the teams being a top contender for a 2-4 year period, starting around 2015. But its how they build on it from here.

There have only really been two Canadian teams that have prolonged runs as one of the handful of top teams in the league in the regular season in the past 20 years. Ottawa and Vancouver in recent years. Both were playoff chokers for the most part.

What? OT in game 7 against whom? BOSTON, the team labelled as cup contender, no less. It makes you gleeful and US hurtful when 4-1 turned to 5-4 lost, but do not forget: Habs turned second place in the conference into 4-1 series lost to the Sens, without Spezza to boot. Habs would not stand a chance against Buds if they meet in first round, I venture a guess it would have been a sweep.

I live in the present and what may be coming, not in the past, I do not care if the Habs has most Cups, for they (and Toronto) do not have the Cup at present. Tomorrow, next year is unknown, that's the joy of living and anticipating....

I found the memo. It says Blackrock is a total jerk who doesn't know his ass from his elbow and who sprains his ankle getting out of bed every morning.
Hint: Don't mess with me and I won't mess with you.

It is actually much better than the Bettman conspiracy memo. I thought you would have realized by now that "the memo" is a figure of speech. Bettman is a New York City lawyer who knows the full meaning of plausible denial.

Sure thing hoss.

Its amusing how you specifically note that Spezza was out, but then fail to note that Eller, Gionta, Prust and Pacioretty were either out or playing with significant injuries.

I was just commenting of the fact that Habs bowed out to the Sens in 5 games, a total surprise due to the second place in the conference. Of course, I did not watch them enough to notice those injuries...

Who knows for sure??? Certainly before the Leafs that's a given! :)
We already know Toronto sucks, as all you 'know it alls' continue to point out at every chance. It has pointed out to death.

I was just wondering when this great organization, Montreal, will win again.
