just for anyone who's interested in trying it out. With all the buzz about Mac's getting virus' these days , it might be a good thing to be a user of 1-2% marketshare OS.
Virus/malware writers too busy writing stuff for windows, and now Mac.

another good video. Woody, your advice about the dual boot is a good way to have a balance , and she mentions this.
The biggest incentive for anyone to try Linux is that won't cost you anything to try it.

Those were a couple excellent clips!...

A buddy at work gave me the same advice a few years back about giving Linux a try when I was flirting with the idea of getting a Mac when Vista was first rolled out. He said try Linux first, it won't cost you a penny. Then if you don't like Linux go buy a pricey Mac. Tried out Linux and loved it.....that was the best PC advice I ever got. Now years later all my PCs are dual boot setups but more importantly I'm Windows FREE and can do EVERYTHING needed with Linux all FREE!

Dual boot is the way to go.
This way you always have Windows to use while learning Linux. At this point in time Windows is rarely if ever used anymore....mainly used just to update Windows and related software, AV etc.

Setting up a dual boot system is very easy now compared to 5 years ago.
Just setup a buddy's new brand laptop, who wants to break free from M$.
It took only 20 minutes to install the Ubuntu OS and another 20 minutes to update and it was good to go right out of the box with no issues whatsoever.

He is on his way to becoming M$ free and it didn't cost him a penny....

A couple of questions. "Dual boot" sounds interesting but won't you still have to pay to buy Windows 7? While Linux is free I discovered that it is not able to accept "Media Player Classic" or "StudioTax".

Unless you build your own PC, it will come with a version of W7 on it, that you pay for.
This doesn't bother me because I like seeing what M$ is up to. After all Windows is still the ubiquitous OS used around the world. You can wipe W7 out and install Ubuntu on the entire HDD if you want but I prefer to keep W7 and just do a dual boot. This way you end up with 2 OSs on your PC.

I don't worry about "Media Player Classic" and other dedicated Windows apps or programs because Linux has a host of their own similar apps and programs that are just as good or better, all FREE....;)

If you setup a dual boot system you can still use 'StudioTax' when you run the Windows side, unless you find a Linux equivalent for it on the Linux side. All the main Tax preparers in the US have Linux versions.

You might want to get a dictionary. Next thing you will be claiming to be a bisexual who is cock free or an independent who always votes dempublican on principle.

You said you were windows free, yet you said you have dual boot.
I believe your claim that you run a dual boot, therefore you are not windows free.

One of these two things can't be true. Either you have windows on your machine or you don't. Also if you have dual boot than you obviously are not saving any money because you either paid for it, or you can get it for free. Nothing to do with delusion, just two states that can't co exist.

It is not a question of delusions, but as O Sensei Bill Maher says, words have meaning.

I mean come on I even underlined the bits for you. Work with me here. I am surprised that nobody caught you on this before.

Fats, you appear befuddled, bet your a dittohead which would explain your utter befuddlement....:eyebrows:

Yes I have a dual boot which = having BOTH Windows and FREE Linux on my PCs. Got that?
You see Windows COMES on all PCs you buy.
I could wipe it out and overwrite it with Linux but WTF why do that when you can just add a second OS Linux for FREE.
Besides it seems rather silly to buy a PC with Windows installed, then scrap out the M$ OS.
The 2 OSs coexist quite well together in fact.
It's just at this point in time M$ is very seldom if ever used.....but is still there.
Still following that, I hope?

Of course if I built my own PC there would be NO reason to buy any Windows OS but with prices still dropping it seemed more advantageous and time saving to buy a PC 'ready made' than building my own.

Hope this eased your befuddlement Fats....:thumb:

The big advantage of Linux IS; it is more stable, runs faster, is more secure, less of a resource HOG than Windoze...oh and it's FREE!....

Because if you did you could honestly and correctly claim to be FREE OF WINDOWS.

Linux and windows can co exist, hell they could join in and suck your dick, but as long as you are running windows you are not free of windows as you claimed.

Are you being difficult or do you so not get it that you really think I am confused.

Nothing you have said shows that you are free of windows as you claim.

I repeat, you are NOT windows free. Why can't you just admit it.

Picky, Picky, Picky....

Not being difficult at all Fats but you still seem befufuddled....:eyebrows:

I can't really remember the last time I HAD to use Windows for something.
Usually boot into M$ just to update it, AV, and a few apps/programs.
Sure I have it but just have no need to use it.

Don't understand why this is soooo confusing for you.....

Don't want to get into any controversy but I have a "dual boot" on one of my computers. Windows first and then installed Linux later.
