Hi everybody,
what was your biggest fear and how did you get over that?
my biggest fear is going to the dentist......it just freaks me out, the smell the drill I just cant get over that.
I had a bad experience when I was a kid and it just brings back memories of pain.

I have not gotten a nightmare in almost 2 years. The ones I do get though are always about being held back in high school when in reality I got very high marks. Its funny how others have nightmares about monsters chasing them or falling off a building and then there's me scared of low marks in school. Now about fears in real life I don't have many legitimate ones, mostly made up ones. For example I'm scared my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood closes. This is about the only fear I can think of right now. To deal with it I guess I just eat out more often...

After not mountain biking for about 5 years I got back into the sport this summer and after doing a six feet jump I lost my balance in the air and landed on my front wheel. That caused me a dislocated shoulder, really bruised ribs and hip. After recovering for two weeks I started riding again but couldn't jump for about a month due to my injuries . After when I fully recovered to overcome my fear I started with smaller jumps and paid more attention to my body position before the take off and while in the air and after a few days I was fully comfortable riding jump park at Blue Mountain and not thinking about crashing. Space alien is right. You have to face your fear in order order to overcome it.

I've undergone a few sessions of hypnotherapy: i.e., hypnosis aimed at a specific issue in one's life. It was very helpful, and I'm sure it could be directed towards something like fear of the dentist's office.

Some might of seen my sky dive pics - my fear in that is heights and flying hated flying up there couldn't wait to jump out and the minute i look to the ground i freaked the fuck out.

some fears gradually get less intense the more you are exposed to it. I don't think you get completely over it unless you train your brain to reconnect a new story to it so it is less effected by the experience.

With a dentist you can ask for breaks and even numbing cream. I have TMJ so my jaw can't stay open for long periods of time. yes my appointments are little longer but I am not opening my mouth in one long sitting trying to get it clean and dealing with instruments in my mouth and also not able to talk and swollow.
