How Dexter should have ended?

I just watched the finale last night (had to catch up on the series).

I thought the ending was OK, not the massive letdown that some fans saw it to be.

However, I think a better ending would be this:

Dexter is overcome with guilt about Debra's death. He also knows that he could never live a normal life with Harrison and Hanna. He jumps into the ocean holding Deborah's body. Both of their faces are shown sinking into the ocean.

The police receive a package from Dexter. It is a full confession along with evidence that he was a serial killer.

Fade to black. Hanna is seen coming home from work one day, and is shocked to see Harrison in his room. On the floor is his dead pet rabbit, covered in blood. Harrison gives Hanna a scared look. Eery ending theme music and credits.

What do you think? How do you think Dexter should have ended?

One of the producers said that the Showtime execs insisted Dexter be kept alive. I think it would be nice if the suits didn't make the decision. I don't think I ever imagined Hannah with a job other snagging another rich husband. But I thought they should have implied Harrison would have followed in Daddy's footstep especially after being left with a homicidal sociopath. No chance for that kid.

Was a terrible ending. Dexter could have sent Harrison to go and live with his brother and sister. Instead, I expect Hanna to kill the little brat when she gets tired of how inconvenient he is to be hauling around with her.

Dexter should have ended...after Season 2. Or maybe 3. But then we would have missed some amazing fake-eating acting, like this:

Such sloppy directing nobody even cares that there's a PA holding a script in the scene.

It jumped the shark 3 years ago, and should have ended then...

There was a great article about 2 months where a writer called out 8 people involved with the show, including the main lady who was involved with continuity and spanked them pretty hard.There were two problems with the last season.A).They had half the time to write the scripts that they usually do.B).They had very rookie writers to do it with.There has long been rumours that Les Moonves HATED that fact that Dexter had such a following and could not wait to get it off the air.
