Somewhere on a golf course
Wins the Players walking away while good old Mike Weir goes the opposite way and shoots 79.....Besides winning $1.4 m, Ames gets a five year excemption on the PGA Tour along with excemptions to the Masters,US Open,British Open and the PGA.Perhaps he will even get an excemption into the Bell Canadian Open...Not bad for a 41 year old...Another couple of weeks we will be teeing it up around here...

I thought it was interesting when Costas interviewed him and he said he had to "think about" paticipating in the Masters due to a planned family vacation....

Vacation...?

While that can be admirable to some people (mainly his family), there are many golfers on tour who'd slap that man in the face without a second thought after hearing him say that.

"Think" about going to the masters? That's like getting the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl and taking the day off to go fishing instead.

I wonder how those golfers would feel if they found out that Ames' wife was diagnosed with cancer last year and that he's got two young children. It kinda puts things into perspective. Good on Stephen.

Give the man a break, he'd just won a huge tournament, his life will change for teh better. Let him process everything first. He put his family first, he deserves praise for that. BTW this morning on The Fan he announced he is going to play the Masters.

Plus it's not like he's never played in the Masters. He played in the Masters last year.

I admire his dedication to his family and yes good for him. But I think Jody, his wife, hugged him, congratulated him and then slapped him upside the head and asked if had been drinking or just had a brief moment of insanity....

You're not surprised...

This should not really surprise anyone...

"Read on the scorewire tonight that Ames is postponing his vacation and accepting the exemption for the Masters"
...because it is almost certainly the "right" thing for a PGA tour player to do. The Masters is a privilege, and if given an invitation, you accept.

On the other hand, it was also the right thing for A MAN to do a real quick check with his cancer survivor wife, who is the mother of his two kids.

He knew he was going, she knew he was going, but he showed both respect and love by not announcing as much on national TV without giving her a courtesy say in the matter.

Sounds like he is a decent guy...can't believe he is Canadian...
