Home theatre setup?

I wanted to upgrade the sound from my TV so I purchased a sound bar. When I tried to hook up the sound bar I realized there isn’t an optical audio output on my TV so I was stuck. I discovered there is an output on my digital box so I plugged the optical audio cable into the output on the digital box and into the input on the sound bar and it worked. Unfortunately with this setup if I want to watch anything else (DVD player, Chromecast) I have to listen to the audio on the TV speakers. Is there a workaround I can use so I can listen to the sound bar while watching my Chromecast or DVD player? I bought an HDMI switcher which has an optical audio out (see link below) but that has been a disaster as it doesn’t play nice with my Chromecast. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

upgrade your tv :)

basically you want to hear what you see on screen, is this correct?

If your TV has audio out, it might have a digital audio out - it looks like a regular RCA phono plug, but its usually orange on the inside (not red or white)
If you have that, you can buy this: http://www.amazon.com/C2G-40018-Coaxial-Toslink-Converter/dp/B0002J2MV4

If you don't have that take back the sound bar and get one that has analog (and digital) inputs.
