Hobbying related: Do newer cars these days have always-on location tracking?

I've been thinking about getting a new car in the next year or so (supply chain willing....), and as a hobbyist and someone in a relationship, I am curious about the newer "smart" cars that have more and more phone-like features built into them, specially GPS and location logging. I understand Teslas have phone apps that allow you to locate your car wherever and whenever. Is this the same with other models of newer vehicles? If they do, can they be turned off?

One would assume the "higher end" vehicles all have some sort of latest generation LOJAC as a theft deterrent, but you can bet "higher end" car thieves have already learned how to disable some of them. Remember the trucker's embarrassment of late? Companies that own some of those big rigs know where their rolling stock is every minute, absent some really high tech intervention. IMHO if the vehicle is high tech enough to have a key fob vs. a key, somebody with a high level enough skill set can track it to the ends of the earth...

The best answer is when your wife asks you what were you doing at a hotel near the Rogers Centre at 4PM on a Wednesday afternoon. LOL!

Also, be aware of the newer cameras. They show the location where the pic was taken.

Won't your wife be curious why you disabled the tracing/tracking option?

I'd hazard a guess and it is a guess that if you disable tracking there will be a gap in the record and then if your wifu looks into it, Lucy, you've got some 'splaining to do. [Which oddly enough Ricky never actually says, says something similar but much like Beam me up Scotty.

Could just get a Chevy Spark. I doubt it has any tracking device. Cute car, easy to park.
