I think I should get tested after years of hobbying... I'm terrified. Have you all gotten tested? Where can I go get tested aside from family doctor? Experience, thoughts, advice?

thanks

Forgot the name, but there's a clinic that's been mentioned a million times on this board - somewhere downtown.
Why not just ask your family doctor for a full physical and a very thorough blood test? It's confidential, so you don't have to worry about them saying anything to anyone.

You can get them done at walk in clinics. I got it done there, they just take out some blood.

4tees named it, Hasslefree is the one.

Waiting for results is definitely uneasy, but you gotta do it. Good luck, but I understand the agony, a lot of us do. lol

It's never a bad idea, and it'll put your mind at rest. Your family doctor can do it for you, any walk in, or the hassle free clinic. The only crappy part is the test takes a few days to come back. Even if you have few reasons to worry your mind can certainly go to work on you for those few days--so just remember it's unlikely you have it, unless you have been involved with either injection drug use or bareback anal, or repeatedly barebacking a woman who is involved in one of those things.

If you had unprotected sex once with some random woman your odds of having HIV are low. On the other hand there are a variety of non-lethal things you should go get checked for...

Some clinics, I believe Hassle Free to be one of them, can have your HIV result in 1/2 hour.

The regional health unit in my city, for all other issues (though, they do test for HIV as well), the results are ready in about a week.

Get it done, for your self assurance, and out of respect for any partners.

Good luck, the probability is everything is 100% fine.

I can see it's been about 5 years since your last HIV test.

HIV Testing at HF gives the results within 2 minutes.

They've been doing "fast testing" for at least 5 years now. They put some liquid into what looks like a contact lense case, a drop of your blood in each. Add the testing agent. One bubble - you live to fight another day, two bubbles - you need to rethink your sexual habits (Could be the other way round, can't remember - i.e. 2 bubbles good, one bubble bad but I don't think so.)

Glad to hear they can do it that fast. It hasn't been 5 years, but I did it through my family doctor. I guess he didn't have that test in his office, and sent it in to public health.

FYI

They will yawn at you at HF.

They will ask you the following:

1. How long since your last BB sex. If it's less then 3 months, they will tell you to wait 3 months.

2. They will ask you if you've been engaging in unsafe receptive anal sex, or sharing needles. If no, (they have now determined you are straight and not an IV drug user) they will ask you how long it's been since your last HIV test. If it's less than 2 years, they will tell you to call them back in 2 years.

(At least, this was how it was with me.)

They really aren't there to be testing the straight community every time you stick your bare dick in a pussy. They would simply drown in idiots requesting testing so that they can bareback the next girl if that was the case. They actually seem to get put off if that's what you're doing.

Actually, if your're positive, they put you on a register of STI infected people. Seriously!

Oh good Lord! Such ignorance on this Board! Go to Hassle Free. It really is hassle free. When you are waiting in the waiting room you will get a laugh at Ashley at reception answering calls from guys who went too far the night before and who are now in a panic. You might get the sense he gets a little miffed but if you had to answer those sorts of calls all day long, you probably would too. Yes they ask you to wait 3 months before being tested and hopefully you will abstain or at least practice safe sex during that period. You have to call and make an appointment for HIV testing, but you don't need one for other STI testing. I think that is because they need some sort of counseling on hand if the result is positive. If you do go for testing, all you are required to do is write down on a piece of paper your name, sexual habits and other generic information given the circumstances. You could write Moammar Gadhaffi as your name. They don't care. They keep the HIV testing records separate from the other records in that nothing connects to your health card which is connected to you. They do not ask for your health card for HIV testing. Not so for the testing for other STI's since that requires your health card as they get reimbursed by the province for those tests. You get your results back from the HIV test in a couple of minutes; the longest two minutes of your life. They told me that it is a good idea to get tested at least yearly so I don't know where the belief comes from that they are put off by a bunch of heteros coming in for testing. You should visit their website or call to get info. Good luck. Oh, and it doesn't hurt to make an anonymous donation once in a while.

P.S. For a positive result, they call your wife, mistress, girlfriend, gay lover, sisters, grade 5 teacher, priest, boss, Aunt, internet provider, bank, Costco Membership Services, and Mom. If they really DO need to call all these people, then you REALLY needed to be tested.

That I understand, but if everything is fine, nobody needs to know you went ahead to get tested.
