So the government is offering insentive to hire people from other countries and at the same time is offering incentive for candian educated people to seek out jobs in other countries(saw an ad on this a few days ago on tv). So basiclly to compete on the world market we need to drive down the wage of the average worker in canada and raise the wage of workers in other countries.
I hire a lot of immagrants for unskill positions in my company(we are not hiring for skilled at the moment) and we offer training and a skilled trade in the end, they are harder working and more reliable then any 18-25 year old canadian that I have tried to hire in the last 5 years. everytime I do this to reduce my cost I know that I am putting less money in to people pockets, so there is less money to spend on my product that is a very local product. I'm just hurting myself but if I don't do it the guy down the street does and I'm out of business in a few years.

Interesting question. I own a company and am currently recruiting for 2 skilled office positions. I don't really care about ethnic backgrounds, but I refuse to hire someone I can't communicate with. Some people will call this narrow minded. Frankly I don't give a fuck, it's my company and I'll hire accordingly. If they have big tits they get extra points.

There are many countries where medical training is considered downright primitive compared to ours. The level of training and education are sub-par by North American standards. Do you want one of those people operating on YOU?
The Foreign trained Physicians I know who are practicing here in North America are excellent physicians - needless to say since the others have been weeded out by the North American Licensing process.

In my case, no home-grown Canadian talent made the cut. HR goes through the resumes first then passes on the most qualified to me. Again, it's possible that some home-growns applied but HR didn't find them adequately qualified for whatever reason(s).

I do find this odd, but business is business and we (I) will hire the best person for the job regardless of where they come from.

On a related note, of the resumes I did receive only 2 were women. This is something I find a little discouraging as my department is incredibly male dominated. But if the women aren't applying / don't qualify, then as hiring manager there's nothing that can be done.
