Any suggestions for a good high definition TV in the 40" size range?

I currently have a 7 year old 40" Samsung but I am pissed at Samsung because...........

I also have a 22" RCA that I am currently using as a computer monitor. I'm happy with the RCA so far.

I have both Samsung and LG Smart TVs, and I always prefer the LG.

If you can afford it go with an OLED....superior picture quality. The 4k stuff is still way ahead of its time, then you need a proper player and all this other stuff to be able to play proper 4k...OLED at 1080p can look just as crisp if not even better due to the way it produces colors and contrast.

The problem with the Samsungs is that their power supply board is a ticking time bomb. It will die way before its time and the TV won't start. I asked Samsung to fix the problem under their "settlement" policy but they said "no speak Anglais". Really pissed at them.

I got mine 5 years ago and still works fine. I am talking about the built quality, the UI, the picture quality, and just how movies look on it compared to the LG. I know you can mess with the colors and white balance and stuff, but out of the box I always prefer my 4 year LG vs. 5 year Samsung.

Although these power issues, maybe they are limited to a particular make or model. Don't you think they would fix it by now.

I think if anyone is after a TV, they should go after superior picture quality which OLED offers.

Maybe they fixed it in the more recent models but we won't know until 5-7 years down the road and by then the warranty will have expired years earlier.

I have a Sharp now for 8 years and zero issues. I paid quite a bit at the time but considering how good it is I consider it worth it.

That and Sony I find have the best quality and customer service.

Pay the extra and get a good one. 4K is a long way off.

I bought an LG Smart TV 55", it's awesome. Don't spend on the 4K it's not worth the added $.

Here is why OLED blows everything else to pieces...no comparisons..

I don't understand why anyone would even look at LCD/LED/or plasma? Once you see it in person, you never ever wanna go back. Maybe I'lI need to investigate those Samsung power problems a bit closer ;)

+1 for LG OLED - best technology available at the moment IMHO

I still have a 72" DLP from 2007 - still working but recently had to buy a new DLP chip - white dot issue.

Not a fan of Samsung - products priced well but very poor for warranty or service issues.

I have a 50" Samsung LED. At first I hated it. Then I found the "motion smoothing" setting ("auto motion plus "in Samsung lingo) and shut it off, that was producing a "soap opera effect" which ruined the picture. Since then I have been quite happy with the TV.
