Apple pushed out a minor update for its iOS software this week - but there are already reports of it causing problems.

Users have been posting on the official Apple Support forum, as well as other technology blogs, complaining that the iOS 7.1.1 update has ‘bricked’ their phone - a term used to describe a phone that won’t switch on.

Many have had to resort to a complete restore and have consequently lost all their pictures, apps and other personal data.

To say bricked their phone it is as the term implies...the phone turns into a brick and you can not do a thing to kick it out. How much more evidence do you need that this titanic is sinking.

Apple has been a huge disappointment after SJ and they have made many key mistakes and are turning way arrogant. I was a loyal apple fan boy from the 3gs days. Now I support Nexus 5.

Takes a long time to sink just as Microsoft is still just half sunk
I always wonder what Microsoft is thinking while Google is just literally going to the moon with all their latest adventures. Robots, satellites........ crazy.

Microsoft is going towards enterprise path much like ibm and oracle. It's common for mature tech companies to give up on competitive consumer fields and move into enterprise market which is more stable from quater to quater.

As consumers it doesn't really matter as long there are young newer companies come up with newer gadgets to keep things going forward. It makes me wonder why 5hummer is celebrating the fact that apple is making more money as in taking more his hard earned money away.

Google is simply trying to distract the masses from the fact that they are selling their web history for ad dollars.... the rest of Google is an unprofitable nit.

I suggest it was the SJ that generated the arrogant closed attitude that lead to Apple's stumble and lost confidence in the market. I was an iPhone user that had to jailbreak my phone to get features offered on other products. According to SJ I was a 'thief or terrorist'. Years ago SJ's innovation put Apple in the position of taking over the PC market - but he was his own worse enemy and an internal revolt turfed him. He came back and revitalized Apple with new products but as they got in position to take it all SJ magic stalled it.

The latest Apple release drops SJ and leaps over 6 years of stagnation by adding 8 features that were originally on Android. Apple supporting widgets, Swype keyboards, larger screens, etc is not a SJ move but I think it is a smart move. I look to Apple getting much more confidence and increasing share in the smartphone market. Wait until OTB & partner try the features a la Android. Maybe they will finally figure out what others were talking about.

One friend recently switched from Apple to Andrid because of the phone features, now he's totally flipped off Apple doing it now while he was in transition, however, he loves how much more you can do with the phone and without iTunes.

Finally apple users get Swype texting, fuck it took this long? But I have a funny feeling apple did this intentionally.

I think this article may explain a few things.
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/google-and-robots-the-real-reasons-behind-the-shopping-spree/

They're obviously looking at long term prospects of robotics being integrated into our daily lives down the line (in the future). Robotics require algorithms and well, Google is insanely good at that.
Sure everybody may be frothing at the mouth over new OS's (Yosemite for example) and their new iPhones (which is ridiculous IMO), but robots, that's a game changer for the future. You may not be around to see it and I might not be either, but the little kids today, they'll see it and live it.

Economy is as saturated with too much products and services one can possibly need, so that's why it's hard to get jobs these days. Producing more and even better things are going to be harder and harder to turn profits. The real value is slowly shifting to how to distribute redundant products / service capacity to where it is truly needed - thus smart advertising. That's why Google is getting richer.

As I said, the masses, especially nerds, are easily distracted. They have the money, the can certainly buy some cool to counter their evil....

They are getting rich because print advertising is stagnant and dead, they own online advertising and have millions of people sharing their email and browser history with them that they can sell to advertisers.

Sad...having to reach back over a month to find a fault with Apple.
Oh, another one. A month ago isn't that far off and regardless, if there's something wrong with a product, there's something wrong at THAT particular time. It is useful however in showing that a company or product as such, where a premium dollar [aka - overpriced] is needed to purchase said product, that it's not flawless or perfect as many of you who defend the product to no end like to make it seem.

Not that far off? You don't know much about the tech world then. Old news...sad commentary on you...try to be mature enough to deal with it.

As for defending to no end, who's the one who came on here with his popsicle stick to stir up trouble?

Apple shares tumble to below $100.

Well, not really. For the fourth or fifth time since Apple shares hit the market the stock was split, this time 7 to 1.

I understand when someone attacks your overpriced not so perfect possession, it can hurt.

I'll let you grieve for a bit.
