It was a great gesture for sure. No one says all cops are bad, its the bad ones that people remember because cops are SUPPOSED to be the good guys.

Yes but criminal citizens are very often held to account for their crimes. The problem is, bad cops only rarely are, and are defended by so called "good cops". This undermines the public trust.

Absolutely. The "Brotherhood" is what promotes this bad behaviour. The idea that a fellow officer that doesn't have your back when you commit an illegal act won't have your back in a firefight is fucking ridiculous. But that's their justification for the brotherhood attitude. And they actually think that's a legit reason for obstructing justice.
