What has God got against the poor bastards in New Orleans and the rest of the U.S. gulf coast?

Now hurricane "Rita" has a good probability (40-50%) to hit New Orleans head on just three weeks after "Katrina". I mean come on - enough is enough. "Rita" is now a Level 1 closing in on the Florida Keys and it's estimated to be a level 3 by Wednesday.

Fill Up Your Gas Tanks Now Before It's Back To $1.25 !!!!!!
Exactly.

The oil companies are just loving these hurricanes. An awesome excuse to gough the shit out of the consumer. I wouldn't be surprised if it tops $1.50 by the weekend.

Talk about not caring about the people of the gulf coast.

It is now at 150 mph, just 5 short of a category 5

I thought there might be some relationship between the lack of oil spills in the past few years, and the large number of hurricanes. Some data suggests this might be true.
See the graph http://oceanworld.tamu.edu/resources/oceanography-book/oilspills.htm

I propose to dump megatons of vegetable/fish/canola oil into the gulf before hurricane season and see what happens. With a thin layer, there won't be enough fuel to grow a cat 5.
Or every guy in the USA could jerk off into the gulf
Or drain the oil from Bush's hair

Whoever is in charge of naming these hurricanes is doing a horrible job. Rita? Sounds like a fat asian woman with a hair lip. I think Rocco is a much more appropriate name for a hurricane. Rocco sounds like a thug who would kill you for lookin' at him the wrong way.

Thumbs down on naming the latest hurricane Rita.

Speaking of megatons, why doesn't Bush just declare Rita a terrorist and bomb the friggin' hell out of it???

The scale doesnt go that high (at least not yet), but if it strengthens to 175 MPH it could be the first ever category 6 hurricane

It should slow down when it gets to the cooler water near the coast, but will likely still be at least category 4 when it hits land. The size of this storm is just massive, covering half the gulf, and has now been called the third largest storm on record. This is goiing to be bad no matter where it hits, but God forbid it hooks to the right and lands in Louisiana again. I'm not sure they could take it.

If this is any indication that the warming of the oceans would produce bigger and more intense hurricanes, it looks like the scientists were right. You gotta feel for the people who were evacuated from New Orleans, wound up in Houston, and are now being evacuated again. They must think they've dropped into hell.

I was thinking the same thing as well. I wonder if the Astrodome will meet the same fate as the Superdome.

Not good. They are now saying that if the hurricane hits where expected in Texas, there will still be a rise in the water around New Orleans of four feet or more caused by the storm surge. If the already damaged levees and canal walls don't hold, the city could fill up all over again.
