Help with Western Digital 1TB External HD

As stated in the above title, I need help!!!
I have a 1TB External HD from Western Digital I need to recover my pics and files from.

System turns on but my computer all of a sudden does not read the USB and therefore will not allow me to log on and retrieve my files. I have tried to plug this in 2 different laptops and 2 different computer and still nothing. If its not possible to retrieve all my files just pics of my new born son will be just fine. Thats all I really want to get from the driver since it failed on me.
I have called recovery centers that will do it in the area but are asking rediculous amounts for their services that I honestly cannot afford.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sadly if you have one of them buggy 1 TB drives that failed and didn't back your data on another drive, you are at the mercy of them recovery centers.

I've used WD in the past as a tryout never again with two failures. One I was able to recover by changing to another another 3rd party casing for $25. Don't ask me why yet it worked. The other one sits waiting for me/my client needing the in formation contained and then the bill to retieve it will range from $500 -$5000.

Being made by the same people and being made to the same standards is two different things. The only time I've ever had a Lacie drive think of causing trouble it sent me a little text saying basically, I'm having a little trouble and 'may' stop working properly. I suggest you get another drive and back up any important files. I did so and it never did crash. Try that with Iomega or WD.

A couple suggestions. First, the drive itself may be fine, but the enclosure may be damaged. If you have access to a desktop computer, remove the drive from the enclosure, and connect the drive internally to the desktop as a second(slave) drive. See if Windows will read the drive...chances are it will.
If you do not have access to a desktop, purchase a new enclosure:http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?cPath=14&sid=lia07j58kj04dv142133ofrq71 , remove the drive from the WD enclosure, and install into new enclosure test to see if drive can be read.

Try reloading the drivers. Download from WD. I have 5 of the WD 2.5 portable drives ranging from 160GB to 1tb and have never had a problem except when I reformatted one to FAT and lost the software that was installed on it.

I have taken the drive out of the case and tried attaching it via usb again to my laptops or computers and still nothing. It turns on proper and you can hear it working but the USB doesnt seem to read. I have use 4 different cables through this process and nothing. I tried using the same cables in other applications and they work just fine so that cant be it.
I will have to try and install it on a desktop computer and see if it will read!
