I just went to see my family doc yesterday because i noticed that one of my testicle is bigger than the other one and i've had occasional pain on my right testicle for about a month. First I thought it might be me having too much sex but then it is getting bigger.
My doc told me it's more likely to be hydrocele rather than cancer because he didn't feel any lump but fluid around the test and he suggested a small operation to repair it. He already booked me an appointment for ultrasound on Jan. 2nd but im still worrying about the bad result like cancer. also I've read on net about the further complications of the operation like blood clot, formation of menatoma or fertility, depending on the surgerical technics used.
I am only 21 and have a very healthy life(no drink and smoke), i don't want to end up like this, ya know?

I want to know if a well experienced surgeon is essintial to the operation...do you have any recommendation for me? does anyone ever have testicle cancer or hydrocele before...please share your experiences with me. thank you

Peter,

I can feel your fears loud and clear, but you are jumping the gun on this one. I can't tell you how many times I've thought I had something serious or terminal, only for it to turn out being something simple. I can't say 100% for sure, but in my experience if a Dr says it's not likely to be something then they have good reason and are usually right.

Also looking on the net is a really bad idea as you tend to get an impression that the worst scenarios are common, which is very misleading.

I know it's hard and I couldn't do it at your age, but just wait 'till you find out the results; worrying isn't going to change a thing.

i've been moody and haven't eaten much since yesterday...especially when my doc told me an operation might be necessary. if it was epididymitis, i could just take antibiotic but it's not....i never been in surgery before and i don't know what to expect. i know i should cheer up a bit, but oh well.....

It's always scary when you have to wait and get more information about a medical condition. Since your doctor didn’t find a lump, it would seem that cancer is not a concern. In terms of hydroceles, I read on the web that

" Generally, a simple hydrocele goes away without intervention. If surgery is necessary, it is a simple procedure for a skilled surgeon and an excellent outcome is expected.”

“Hydrocelectomy is the surgical procedure often performed to correct a hydrocele. This is a MINOR surgical procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis using general or spinal anesthesia."

Possible complications were noted, but my guess is that these are pretty remote. Since you are young and healthy, the odds are strongly in your favour for a fast recovery.

Although you are feeling extremely anxious right now, it sounds like the surgery, even if it is required (and you must remember that it is still to early to say whether you will even need it), is not major. I hope this helps you to relax a bit. As Pool points out, worrying isn't going to change a thing. Although it may be difficult, you will be better off keeping an optimistic outlook.

Good luck.

Dear Peter

I would support the general sentiment here that you probably don't have much to worry about.

The ultrasound should be conclusive about your palpable testicular abnormality.

The operation to repair a hydrocele is very different from the one done to remove a cancerous testicle. Don't confuse the effects of those 2 very different procedures; some sites on the web may mislead you into thinking they are the same.

Blood tests can also be done to help define what the testicular abnormality is, if there is suspicion of cancer after the ultrasound.

Best wishes

well, i am not a medical expert such as the other posters appear to be, however,

In 92 or 93 i went to see doc friendly because i had a very hard prominent vein aournd the underside of the head of my cock. I was naturally concerned.

Doc friendly took a look, said he had seen it before and it would go away. Then he gave my balls a quick exam and said that they seemed swollen.

I told him that they were always that size and it was just a point of pride.

Anyway, he sent me for an ultrasound.

I was starting to panic.

As it turned out however, the ultra sound test was to be done by a 30 something year old gorgeous red head.

She told me to put a towel on my abdomin, lay my cock on top of it, then another towel on top again, but leave my nuts hanging out.

I didn't know what to expect, but i will tell you this...

It was fucking great.

I was laying there, with my balls hanging out and her rubbing some sort of warm lube on them and then rubbing this wand all over them.

I made a nice tent out of that surical towel covering mr. happy.

I could have laid there all afternoon.

Peter -- If you're still unsure after the ultrasound, then consider getting a second opinion from a specialist (in this case, I assume it would be urology). In my experience (not extensive, but I've had a couple cases where I've needed second opinions), specialists are in a much better position to gauge both the need for invasive procedures, as well as the expected outcome if you simply leave things alone. Remember, they see many, many such cases in a year; your family physician probably only sees a couple. Best of luck.

if what i have is cancer *knock on wood*, how big can the size of a tumor grow in 2 weeks? twice as large? not likely right?
and i thought i am going to see an urologist for ultrasound, no? last question, how will an urologist exame me differently from ultrasound?

Sorry, peter, I'm not a doctor, and I have no clue how fast tumors could grow.

I've had a couple different ultrasounds in the past. One was done by the specialist himself, and he provided immediate feedback. Another was done by a technician, and the results reviewed by my family physician. If your appointment is with a urologist, it sounds like you'll get the specialist's opinion. I think the immediate value of the specialist is in their diagnostic experience. Plus, if there are still questions after the ultrasound, they are able to order appropriate additional tests as needed.

I know it's tough to relax while waiting for these diagnostic tests (I've been there), but stressing over the situation truly won't help. If being better informed makes you feel better, by all means spend some time on the internet digging into the details of your situation. Just beware of the self-diagnosis trap. I had some fairly frightening symptoms awhile back, and after a bunch of research, I was convinced which (somewhat ugly) disease I had. Of course, I was completely wrong, and in the end just caused myself more stress than necessary.

Hang in there. From the sound of it, the odds are with you, and by far the most likely outcome is that you're gonna be just fine.

Good for you. However, thanking people who 'supported' you in your testicular crisis is just wrong, IMHO. :D
