I am in the process of formatting my pc. it is currently running windows 7. But am having trouble doing so. I have I have set up my bios such that it is booting from CD. but when I restart the PC it will not allow me to format the drive, just starts up windows. I have not done this in a while so if any one can shed some light I would be thankful!

If the WIndows 7 CD / DVD is actually bootable, then check the boot order / priority in the bios. Even if you enable booting from CD / DVD the system will usually look to hard drives first.

i sense a contradiction. you say you have it booting from cd, but windows starts. what do you have on the cd? does your bios ask you to hit a key to boot from cd? do you really think it's booting from the cd? or is it trying then failing over to the next boot device? one way to be sure is to config your bios boot sequence so it only has cd. nothing else.

I have checked in Bios that the boot from cd is the option selected. I sense that since I am using a Usb keyboard, it is not recognizing that I am hitting enter when it says hit any key to boot fm CD. Also, Not sure if this was mentioned but, I currently have Windows & installed on the computer and would like to format over that.

aabb111975, I think you are correct regarding the usb keyboard. I too use a small usb board and found that prior to os loading, in the dos bootup sequence, it wouldn't recognize the board. I have an older, larger keyboard that is not usb and I keep it just for that reason. Is your current os winxp? Just get/borrow a standard board and you should be able to get the cd to boot properly.

Yep, we hit the nail on the head, was the USB keyboard that was the issue. Strange though, as the usb keyboard did allow me to enter bios, but any thing after that the USB did not respond to. Thank to those that have chimed in.
