What is the deal with 3 popping up all of a sudden and how do I get back to using 1?

When I first had PS3 hooked up to TV with HDMI cable, there was only HDMI 1 on the TV input. I had the PS3 in the upstairs TV the last few days. Just brought it back down and I noticed that there is now HDMI3, which is what I have to use now, instead of the 1.

Noticed that there is a line, like a horizontal wave that goes up the screen every few seconds. Also, went to my demo games folder and it did not show any games. When I went to shut down, it also did not show anything. Don't know if it just took longer to load or what as I did not wait for neither to show but I've never seen anything like this. Almost like it's malfunctioning or something.
Does that have to do with HDMI 3 or something else?
Hope doesn't mean there is something wrong with PS3

Are you getting the horizontal line on your screen ONLY when using the PS3, or when you watch TV or DVDs also?

If it is there all the time, you may have a ground loop problem. Usually it is caused by coaxial cable and some combination of a cable box/receiver hooked up to your television. You can buy a ground loop isolator for it, or buy a power bar for home entertainment centres that also has a cable in/out.

Even though it is the coax causing the problem you will see the horizontal line, or band, when you watch anything on your television.

As for the HDMI issue... Do you mean that the HDMI 1 input on your TV no longer works with your PS3 and that you have to use HDMI 3 input?

There are known issues with certain versions of the PS3 firmware, and certain televisions when using HDMI. Swapping TV's might have changed the PS3's settings, and for whatever reason it isn't auto-detecting properly on your other TV when you moved it back.

The missing game demos do sound weird. If you are sure that nobody else had access to your PS3 that could have intentionally, or unintentionally, deleted the files if definitely sounds like it might be a hard drive issue.

If I were you, I would back up my saved games to a thumb drive and try doing a system restore. It will reformat the HD, and default to factory system settings. If you have an older PS3, it would also be a good opportunity to install a larger HD if you wish.

You could have 3 separate issues to deal with, or they could all be related to a corrupt HD.

I just based my assumption on the missing files .... it could either be a bad drive or corrupt files system but all the above points are as valid as my guess :) ....

Thanks for the advice guys. I dont need it this time around but certainly helps to know things like that.

After trying a few times, unplugging and plugging the cables, things are back to normal. I did have 3 plugged in but still don't get why it was acting weird. I tried 1 a few times but the problem I got was the input would go blank (finding signal) every so often. Very frustrating.
Also it wasn't just the demo games that did not appear, when you go to shut down, normally it ask you yes/no, that screen was blank as well.
If you guys know the reason to that it'd be nice to know, but nevertheless things are ok now. Seems the inputs had an effect on it? Is that possible?

New problem I finally figured out now is that I can' get a good Wired internet connection thru my 2 outlets downstairs closes to the TV. Don't know if it's something wrong with outlets or powerline adapters

Long story short, I have modem/router upstairs, powerline adapter connected. Another powerline adapter connected to the next room for PC.
I have 2 sat TVs. Upstairs/downstairs. Downstairs is connected by 100ft cable connecting to the adapter upstairs. (had to do this due to reallllllly weird problems earlier with TV connected downstaris outlet)
I bough a separate adapter while back,HomePlugWave (Homeplugwave.com), because wireless wasn't great and I prefer wired as well. Same 85mbps as the other Netgear adapters. I been connecting PS3 with the HPW adapter to the outlet downstairs. But most times just getting a connection is very hard or even impossible. Think that is also why I got kicked out so many games few weeks back.
Just tried this morning. If I change to another outlet not too far away, it is the same thing. Running Internet Test, cannot get pass Internet Connection. Once in a while it will works, but can tell connection isn't great, constantly get signed out of PS3 network.

BUT, if I take the 100ft cable running upstairs to downstairs TV beside the PS3, and plug into PS3, absolutely perfect Internet Connection.

Is it because of this no name brand of adapter?? I really don't want to get another 100 ft cable to connect to upstairs, but it's looking that way right now.

I don't know much about powerline adaptors, but this article may help to give you an idea of possible issues with your set up:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/138091/powerline_adapters_home_networking_without_rewiring.html

My home entertainment system is in a Wifi dead zone in my house. My place is over 100 years old, and because of the layout, I don't have too many options as to where my home entertainment system, or my router can go.

When we moved in, half the house was old knob and tube wiring, and the other half was modernized sometime in the 1980's. I had the rest of it modernized, but now we have a bit of a patchwork grid that I don't think would be suited to powerline adaptors.

I ended up drilling holes through my exterior side wall to run Cat 5e cable from my home office to my entertainment centre. It then goes to a network hub, and then to the six devices attached to my TV that require an internet connection.

The funny thing is that after doing all that work, I never have time to actually play any of my consoles anymore! ;-)

Long story short, you may be better off biting the bullet and just running ethernet cable to your home entertainment set up.

Make sure your PS3 has the latest firmware. If it does, go into settings and play around with your HDMI settings. From your first post, I thought that you meant that the actual files were missing. However, if you mean that the files are there but you just get a blank screen when you try to play them, that's a different issue.

I think that when you switched TV's your PS3 auto-detected new HDMI settings. It sounds like it isn't reverting to the proper settings now that you have it back on your other TV.

You will probably need to manually adjust your settings. If you do a google search for "<your model of TV> +PS3 +HDMI issues" (or something close to that) there's a good chance that you will find some answers. There are a lot of known issues with the PS3 and certain TVs.
