I went to hassle free clinic to get STD checked. I waited for 30min then got screened by a councilor. The councilor reviewed my sexual behavior and drew blood sample for STD testing, but no HIV testing as it requires a separate appointment. After that, I saw a doctor for the finial review and visual check up.

Q1. Is this the clinics normal system?
Q2. Is a councilor also qualified to do blood work? Have they gone through proper training? i.e. use of fresh needles etc for testing?
Q3. My arm feels numb since the testing, should I call the clinic? Or, should I go see reg. doc for this?

Im so worried ...

Yes, to cut costs the clinic reuses needles. Another downside of socialized medicine. Your arm is about to fall off.

On a positive note, it took your mind off the STD you may have.

Depends on the clinic.

Often the counsellors are nurses with counselling training. Undoubtedly they`d be properly trained and would use new hypodermics for each test.

Wouldn`t hurt to call the clinic and tell them what`s up, but they`ll likely refer you to your family doc anyway.

Yes, this is the normal system there and you need an appointment for the HIV test. I believe the counsellors are fully qualified - their site says:

"Each clinic is staffed by a medical director, doctors, paramedic counsellors and a shared bookkeeper. A city of Toronto public health nurse is assigned to work during the men’s hours. "

They use fresh needles for testing.

Not sure about why your arm feels numb - based on the answer given in the link below, you should probably check with your doctor.

Having volunteered at the Hasslefree Clinic I can tell you that the counselors are trained in drawing blood and other routine tasks. The clinic is SUPER busy every day all day, and training their counselors in basic paramedic skills cuts down on the doctor's limited time.

Next time you're there don't forget to say thank you to the healthcare professionals that are continuing to make our 'hobby' safer.

Yes, and of course, they will think you're gay because you're there and after all it's a gayboy clinic.

They'll rub your arm suggestively while staring into your eyes when taking blood

Later, they'll kiss your boo boo better, then, before you leave, they'll ask you if you want to suck their cock or if you're negative, pound them up the ass bare back.

:D

the HIV test is a seperate test and you do have to ask for it as I recall. I believe this is because the hassle free clinic makes sure it is anonymous (I can't spell) and will not process it in a way that will reveal you as HIV positive to the government.

When I've gone (and I've only been twice) they do a urine test standard and a blood test if you mention symptoms of anything that might not show up in a urine test. The feeling in your arm is probably your mind fucking with you.

Why would you be worried at all. Unless you were stupid, and had unprotected sex with some crack smokin' street walker.
