So I was changing my SPEAKOUT over to CHATR, and I considered just using my new CHATR number and giving up my old Speakout number.

But then it occurred to me: could someone eventually REQUEST to get my old cell number, and then THEY would be receiving any texts from the old phone number , at least from people that didn't know my new number?

And the same thing goes for a dead email account: couldn't someone register that email after it was deleted, and then get any emails sent to that account from the previous owner's contacts that he didn't inform about the change?

I sent an email a few years ago to an old email account that I had deleted, it was a hotmail account, and I did NOT get a bounce back automatic reply saying that it was an invalid email account!

La la land
Stories have been told here before about this over the ages.
Especially when the old number was own by a SW.

As for email I have received it from dead people asking for money, which that x-employees of Bell stole the email after the account was closed from relatives of the passing person.

I like your signature quote.

In my experience a request for a specific number would be denied by a legitimate mobile provider, unless it somehow randomly came up as an option, which would be hugely against the odds.

I still get a few random texts on my pooning # meant for the last guy who had the number. No idea who he was other than that his name was Dan, and apparently he was quite an asshole.
