If you get enough followers on Instagram, you become an 'influencer' and people will pay you to promote their things. So, lots of pretty girls post photos of themselves in hopes of hitting that threshold where people will pay them mad cash to do promotions.

Where do you think all of those newspaper advertising dollars have disappeared to? It's now being spent on social media, and 'Insta' as the kids call it is one of the top ones. That's why Facebook bought it for a few billion bucks.
