Are you talking paint or driveway sealer?

Paint? Don't. I could list the reasons, which are many, but don't.

In my youth I painted many driveways with vomit after drinking to much at house parties .
Pros :washes off with a hose , better than barfing inside
Cons: chunks can be hard to spray away, sucks when someone does it on your driveway

+1 for sealer. It’s really the only option for the homeowner... Unless you’re getting into commercial options.

I paid a guy $150 cash to do my double car driveway. He used BlackMac from McAsphalt. Seems to be better than the expensive stuff from Home Depot. Sadly that dude has disappeared.

La la land
Before you seal it, you must start with the cracks, fill it first, then the following week seal the whole driveway using a paint roller. Not a brush or spaying devices. Make sure you can get back in your house.

I once paid some guy to "paint" my driveway with some tar-like product. It was cheap, and it was sprayed on, so I don't think it was the best quality.
But for that year and the next, my driveway looked great!
After that, it looked crap just like before.
I would probably pay more for a better quality job in future.

Don't spray, because all it does is make your driveway black, but doesn't seal.
5 gallon pail of sealer will cover single car spot. Use a roller or even better a squeegee. It'll take couple days to fully dry. Make sure you have somewhere else to park overnight.

Use a good roller and hold a piece of cardboard while you paint the borders of the driveway first without going over and messing up any patio stones at the edge of the driveway. (Just like grade school colouring).

Then you paint the interior and make sure you don’t paint yourself into a corner.

After covering everything, pour the leftover tar into any cracks in the driveway to fill them in.

I got really good at this 2 years ago. I checked the weather forecast which called for clear skies and did a perfect...and I mean perfect job!
And 10 minutes after I put everything away.....there was a flash rain storm that lasted 10 minutes which washed my entire new driveway down the street in a dark black river.

The only part that didn’t wash away was the outside border that I painted first.

So I repainted it the following week and it still looks great today!

If you want your driveway nice and black you should seal it with a tar like substance. It will only last for a couple of years but in that time your driveway will look great. However it’s purely aesthetic and it will not make your driveway last any longer.

If it's an asphalt driveway, you can really just seal it and nothing else. If it's a concrete poured driveway, you can use polyaspartic coatings to coat and even do flake designs it works like epoxy but it's UV stable so no yellowing. if it's interlocking, again all you can do is clear sealer.

If it is interlock actually you can use a concrete stain. Looks fabulous if you do proper preparation, lasts maybe 5 years then you need to do it again.
