22/7.... for those mathematician Terbites! :-D
Um ... Hate to disillusion you, Cycleguy, but 22 divided by 7 is *not* Pi (the mathematical constant of the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter). Twenty-two divided by seven is only a very inaccurate approximation of Pi.

Pi is = 3.14159265358 ... (and on and on)
22/7= 3.14285714285 ...

See what I mean? Way off.

On the other hand ...

Why let that get in the way of a great sexual reference (especially here)?

Okay, it's "PI" FOR EVERYBODY TODAY!!!!!! WHO'S WITH ME?!?!? ;)

Isn't it supposed to be March 14th lest we have one every month?

Doh! I think I had a similar post on Mar. 14! LOL!

Technically though pi= 22/7 or

I was obviously referring to the rational approximation when I said 22/7.

Having said that... I prefer hairless "pi"!

I was hoping you meant they finally found the end of that number so every grade school math teacher could finally STFU about it

It has to have an end ...... does it not?

i thought pi was sqrt(10)?
Pi is the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter which is 3.14 ...

and then it goes on forever as they have yet to discover its end

Square root of ten is

3.16 ....

not even close

Meh. I can live with an error of 2/3rds of a percent. If I want to know how much water is in a cylindrical tank a half meter wide and a meter tall using sqrt(10) tells me it's a shade under 20 litres and using pi accurate to 20 decimals tells me it's a shade under 20 litres. Either way I guess I'll call it a 20 litre tank--my ability to fill the tank exactly to the brim, my ability to measure the tank properly, probably more error prone than a 2/3rds of a percent calculation error.

For any application of pi I might encounter in my life sqrt(10) is close enough. If I were trying to engineer a house or a bridge I guess I'd have to go with 22/7. Maybe someone at NASA cares about accuracy beyond that, those guys might have to use 3927/1250.

Can't think of any actual applications of pi that require an error smaller than two ten thousandsth of a percent.
