If it was one of they Red Black's players, they'll catch them all.

Now for the stupid comment in the article. "Boland does not want to see an increased police presence on Hanlan’s Point as a result of this incident, because many LGBTQ+ people, including himself, have had little success when reporting assaults to police."

I thought the stupid comments in the article started right after what you pointed out.

"But he’d like to see straight Torontonians choose other beaches for the remainder of Pride month to allow the queer community to feel safe at Hanlan’s Point.

“It’s summer and the village is closed. A lot more queer people are travelling down to Hanlan’s — it’s one of [the] only safe spaces … You can feel safe at any other beach,” he said, referring to straight people.

Others have also asked that people who don’t support the queer community stay away from Hanlan’s Point."

Personally I don't go to beaches because I'm so pale I burst into flame when exposed to that much sun but segregation is never a good thing. From reading the article and the part that I posted it would seem that the LGBTQ+ community has chosen this beach but how would they feel if the beach they can have exclusively was chosen for them? We could ask the indigenous people how they like the reservations that were chosen for them I suppose...

Not all straight people assault LGBTQ+ people and you don't have to be a supporter to just not care. I know that the article isn't suggesting that the queer community have sole access to the beach during pride month but still, this shit needs to stop and printing that kind of nonsense just starts the conversation. (Yes, I see the irony.)

If we could all just agree that people shouldn't be assaulted or accosted for no good reason maybe appearance/racial origins or sexual orientation would just be ignored and we could go back to just beating people who owed money or talked shit. Ah, the good old days where people spoke respectfully because they knew if they didn't they were likely to get punched in the face for their ignorance. I jest, sort of. (It's been a long day and this feels like a ramble I should delete but I'm not that wise...)

That's a fair statement; if you are that offended by people being gay then going to a place with lots of gay people is dumb. As for straight people who aren't bigots going, why shouldn't they?

Some people want Hanlan's to be an exclusively gay and/or nude beach.

Hope the assailants are caught and prosecuted.
Fwiw I go there a lot, and hang out (pun intended) on all parts of the beach. I simply enjoy being naked and the sun.
Creating a beach area only for one group is just wrong and discriminatory. The sunsets are pretty great there. People are pretty cool and respectful.
This reported assault is really unusual and no reason to start changing the dynamics IMHO

In the past I would go a couple of times a year, almost always with friends (see pic below) but only twice in the last four years because of the floods and pandemic. Never actually saw anything too untowards (although one time I saw a guy servicing another guy in the bushes).

This incident happened at 11:30PM near the dock. I think the ferry stopped running hours ago.

He wants "straight" Torontonians to choose other beaches? What a moronic statement. Like straight people are a general threat to the gay community. Give me a break.

Others have also asked that people who don’t support the queer community stay away from Hanlan’s Point."
While that's a valid statement, it infers that people who don't support the queer community are going to resort to violence.

I've been to that beach many times with my wife and friends. I can guarantee not everyone there is queer. And from what I understand (speaking to my gay friends, and I know many) straight people aren't the problem, it's the assholes. Don't lump the straights in with the homophobic thugs.

Another pic from happier times. Before the floods, before the plague and before the assault. Hint: Best time to take pics of your friends is after 6PM when all the normal people have left the beach (avoids catching innocent people in the background).
