Well well well. The shoe is on the other foot now isn't it Andrea. When she was in the provincial legislature and a public sector went on strike all she ever said was "pay them. they deserve it". It's all Doug Ford's fault, blah, blah , blah.
Now she wants the transit union to come to the table to talk about anything but wages. Union said no. Good for them.
Pay up Andrea. Such a hypocrite.

If you can't succeed at Provincial politics in Ontario, the Mayor's Office is a consolation job.

Andrea says the Transit Union should take 12.75% over 4 years, which is the same wage deal the City of Hamilton gave to CUPE Inside/Outside workers. The Transit Union says no way.

It's Grey Cup week in Hamilton and there are going to be numerous road closures; the Transit Union says if anyone tries to implement a shuttle service for the game, it will be considered scab work and they will be showing up to disrupt it.

Looks like the Hamilton Transit Strike is over. The Union knew it had leverage due to the Grey Cup game this weekend; and Andrea didn't want to deal with any embarrassments under her watch.

I think Hamilton Taxpayers are already looking at double-digits increases in Property Taxes this Fiscal Year. Next year Metrolinx starts ripping up downtown Hamilton to install the LRT (which the Union demands they get to operate).

So much for the revival of Hamilton. Shortly, it will be just as expensive as Toronto and the 905, or worse, but it will still be Hamilton - lose, lose.

Sadly, union negotiators know all too well that when public services are affected, politicians will fold. Teachers unions do this just as the school year starts, transit does it when big events are scheduled, etc etc.
But...most politicians have to show that they are looking after tax payers and put on a tough negotiation face so that they don't get accused of being bullied by the mob...I mean union.

So they play the game a bit and eventually give in...and everyone pays more.
