Hamilton Cops & City Hall On The Warpath

Just finished watching the biggest line of bullshit I ever seen a public offical give on TV. Councillor Sam Muerella and Hamilton Cops were Live@5:30 on CH today (Dec 4) spout the evils of adult industry, in particular the MP and Strip Clubs.

The cop gave in detail how all the women involved in the sex industry are victims, that they were addicted by people who own these business. And that ALL of these businesses were owned by organized crime. The cop said that more busts were in the future and basically wants to run all sex industry business out of Hamilton. Muerella wants to remove all adult licences from the city, especially MP. Again both of these fucking yahoos were saying that their actions were justified because they are "protecting the moral standards of the community" I don't know about you, but the last thing I want is a politician telling me what is or isn't moral!

The interesting part was the editor of The View was there defending his stance on advertising for the adult industry. He had some interesting things to say on the police's practice of blanket labeling of the sex industry as a whole in the manner they are.

True, there are ladies in the business who have some addiction problems. True, there are organized crime elements in the industry. But slap the same label on (i.e. lying to the public) the sex industry as a whole is just wrong. And this whole segment was nothing more that police bullshit proganda.

What I have been told by some of the ladies in the business that I have talked to,is that they want to be in this line of work and are doing it by choice and not being forced by anyone. They all seem to feel they would like to quit someday but when is their choice too.

Exactly...there are a lot of ladies who are working in this career by choice. What the cops are doing is taking the standard stereotype of a street hooker, stretching it to fit everyone in the sex industry, then pushing that propoganda to city hall saying they are the root of the crack problem in Hamilton. And Bingo! A "witch hunt" that would make the Salem Witch Trials tame by comparision.

Someone get a View reporter & a SPEC reporter out to an MP and do a detailed interview. Exploited my ass..... these girls are NOT druggies or coerced they do what they do out of choice.

Just an idea....

Of course this aint a new idea, its been kicked around before on the Toronto board where a reporter was trying to do a TV special. There is always the chance that media with an agenda will exploit the story and spin it the way it already has been.

Perhaps some well-crafted letters-to-the editor by some literate and talented MPA's will provide an alternative view point.

This Councillor's specialty seems to be to do anything and everything to make himself look good. It's about time that politicians stopped forcing their own personal views onto citizens of this city and concentrated more on resolving the more critical problems facing this community (problems by the way that this Councillor contributred to in his previous term) such as the growing debt, cutting of services, deteriorating infrastructure, damaging the environment by building expressways through conservation areas, etc. Politicans are all opportunists - tackle only those things that seem to be easy to accomplish and ignore the more serious, critical issues that impact everyone negatively in the community.

I have never been a fan of this politician - it's sad that Hamilton saw fit to vote back in 11 of 14 yahoos (including the Mayor, a former councillor) who's specialty seems to be bickering amongst themselves, jockeying to see who can be in the media more to advance their own personal agendas and ignoring the true needs of the community. The same people that created many of the problems we have today in Hamilton are back to try to solve them. This Councillor is again in the media trying to divert from the true problems by bringing forth a perceived problem that he intends to crush. Who appointed this guy the community's watch dog of moral conduct? Same crap - different term.

Sorry for my rant - these people just tick me off big time!
