Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Fireworks Night, is an annual commemoration observedon 5 November, primarily in Great Britain. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605 O.S., when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. The Catholic plotters had intended to assassinate Protestant King James I and his parliament. Celebrating that the king had survived, people lit bonfires around London…

Fond memories of foggy Novembers growing up in the UK and watching the fireworks after school.

Saw a documentary on it a while back which was amazing. It was explained how he and his associates got caught by a series of flukes and mishaps. Can't remember the finite details, but it was quite the yarn. Pity the fools who got caught. to quote Quentin Tarantino. The authorities "Went medieval" on 'em Ouch!

Grew up in the UK as well. We made a dummy out of old clothes and straw and burned it on a bonfire to commemorate what happened to old Guy Fawkes.

Also fireworks. It was like having the 4th of July at Hallowe'en time!
